Amos. His daughter, Shannon Amos, said she was disappointed by the outcome and remained concerned about her father’s care. The competing family accounts were not resolved by the reported police finding. Amos died on August 21, 2024, aged 84.
What John Amos said after the investigation closed
TV Insider reported on April 11, 2024, that the LAPD had closed its investigation into elder-abuse claims involving Amos and found no evidence of wrongdoing. The report followed concerns raised by his daughter, Shannon Amos. This was a reported police-investigation outcome, not a court ruling or a determination of every dispute among relatives. TV Insider’s April 11 report said Amos’s statement had been reported by People.
Amos thanked the department for its “professionalism and thoroughness” and said investigators had concluded that he was doing well. He also said he intended to complete a documentary film with his son, K.C. Amos. Describing the allegations as a “false narrative” was Amos’s characterization of them, not an independently established finding.
He said the film would “shed light on the real truth as to the motives of those who have painted a false narrative about me.” He also urged people to “Stand on the truth and stay there. It won’t let you down. The truth will stand up for you.” Both statements conveyed his position and his stated aim for the documentary.

Why Shannon Amos disagreed
Shannon Amos told TV Insider she was disappointed with the investigation’s conclusion. She said no one in her family had seen or spoken with her father since July 2023, and cited communications from care providers and medical professionals that she said raised concerns.
In the statement quoted by TV Insider, she said her father had been removed from a medical facility against doctors’ orders by her brother, K.C. Amos, Eugene Brummet and Belinda Foster. Those are Shannon Amos’s allegations; the reporting does not independently verify them. TV Insider’s report on her response includes her account.

How the investigation fit into earlier reporting
A March 2024 Los Angeles Times report said Amos denied neglect allegations and that the LAPD had confirmed an elder-abuse report was opened in February and was still under investigation at that time. The Times described the care allegations as disputed by Amos and his son. The April closure report later described police finding no evidence of wrongdoing; neither account establishes that every family concern was adjudicated.
What is known about the documentary—and what is not
Amos’s April 2024 statement announced his intention to complete a documentary with K.C. Amos. The reporting cited here does not establish whether the film was completed or released, or what it contained. No conclusion about its status or contents can be drawn from the announcement alone.
