King Charles hosted Prince Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove on 10 July 2026, in a private family gathering also attended by Queen Camilla. Buckingham Palace confirmed the meeting to the Associated Press. It marked renewed contact, but it does not establish that father and son have fully reconciled.
What happened at Highgrove
The family met at Highgrove House, Charles’s country estate west of London, on Friday, 10 July 2026. The Associated Press reported that Buckingham Palace confirmed the gathering; ITV News also reported it, saying the meeting was understood to have taken place. Associated Press · ITV News
- Reported attendees: Charles, Queen Camilla, Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
- Privacy: The Associated Press said the gathering was private and no images would be publicly released. The family has not publicly disclosed what was said or whether another meeting was planned.
- The children’s visit: The AP and ITV reported that Archie and Lilibet had last seen their grandfather in person during the 2022 Platinum Jubilee period. This was their first reported in-person meeting since then.
Does the reunion mean they have reconciled?
It is accurate to call the gathering a reunion and a meaningful sign of renewed family contact. The AP described it as a step toward mending fences; ITV said it was likely to be interpreted as a sign of thawing. Neither report says Charles or Harry declared their relationship repaired. A private meeting is evidence of contact, not proof of a lasting change in their relationship.
The distinction matters: the visit was a family event, and its private nature leaves its emotional significance and any future arrangements unknown. It should not be presented as a completed reconciliation or as evidence that every disagreement has been resolved.

How the meeting fits the public timeline
- 2020: Harry and Meghan stepped back from official royal duties and moved to the United States, according to the AP’s account of the family rift.
- February 2024: Harry travelled to Britain after Charles’s cancer diagnosis, ITV reported.
- May 2025: After losing his appeal over publicly funded security, Harry told the BBC, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.” The AP also reported that Harry said his father would not speak to him “because of this security stuff.” These are Harry’s statements about his position and his understanding of the dispute, not independent confirmation of Charles’s perspective. Associated Press, 2 May 2025
- September 2025: The AP’s July 2026 report said Charles and Harry had met briefly for tea in London the previous September, before the Highgrove gathering.
- July 2026: The wider family met at Highgrove, including Archie and Lilibet.
Family contact is separate from royal duties
The July gathering does not indicate that Harry and Meghan returned to official royal work. In a separate report dated 7 September 2026, the AP said they remained non-working members of the royal family. It reported that the King’s letter described their charity work as being carried out in a private capacity and said operational security decisions belonged to the relevant police agencies. No reliable public account establishes what Charles and Harry discussed at Highgrove, how either felt about the visit, whether they agreed to meet again, or whether their relationship has durably improved. The absence of public images and the decision to keep the gathering private limit what can responsibly be concluded.
