When did Ludwig season 2 come out?
Release timing depends on where you watch. In the UK, secondary reports give 20 August 2026 as the BBC One premiere date, with episodes also available through BBC iPlayer. The BBC schedule and iPlayer listing are the best places to check current UK availability; that date is reported rather than confirmed by an accessible BBC announcement in the sources cited here.

What is Ludwig season 2 about?
John “Ludwig” Taylor has taken an official job as a Crime Scene Consultant, working with DCI Russell Carter on apparently impossible crimes for the Cambridge Police Authority. Because he is no longer impersonating his twin brother James at the station, John can investigate cases openly—but he is barred from using police resources to search for James or uncover what James had been investigating.
That restriction keeps the personal mystery running alongside the weekly crimes. Lucy continues helping John pursue the truth about James and bring him home. The premise and six-episode format were outlined in BritBox’s first-look announcement.

How many episodes are in season 2?
Season two consists of six episodes, each 60 minutes long. Mark Brotherhood created the series and writes the new run. George Kane directs episodes one to three, and Stella Corradi directs episodes four to six. Big Talk Studios makes the series with That Mitchell and Webb Company, BritBox and ZDF for the BBC.
Is there a Ludwig season 2 trailer or confirmed release rumour?
The confirmed timing differs by territory: the UK premiere is reported as 20 August 2026, and BritBox announced a 13 October 2026 US debut with weekly episodes. Older speculation that the series might arrive in 2025 is outdated; filming announcements from that year preceded the later schedule information. The official first-look announcement gives the season’s premise and cast, but the sources cited here do not establish a separate trailer release date.

What else is coming: the Christmas special and season 3
The Christmas special is a separate 60-minute installment, not part of season two’s six episodes. Set at a remote Christmas-themed hotel in Yorkshire, it traps guests in a blackout during a blizzard and centers on a locked-room murder. John, Lucy and Henry investigate, with Sir David Suchet among the murder suspects. The announced guest cast also includes Jason Flemyng, Joe Wilkinson, Cathy Tyson, Alexandra Roach and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. BritBox announced the special on 2 September 2026; its announcement does not establish a broadcast date.
Season three is in production, but no premiere date has been confirmed in the cited announcements. Big Talk Studios recorded the third-series commission on 8 July 2026, and BritBox also described the season as in production in September. Do not treat production status as a release schedule. How successful was the original Ludwig?
ITV Studios reported on 26 February 2025 that the first series reached more than 9.5 million viewers over 28 days and was the BBC’s biggest new scripted show of 2024. That figure refers to series one, not season two, and the 28-day measurement window matters. The figure appears in ITV Studios’ announcement.
