The footage establishes the reported sequence of locations and times; it does not establish the allegations made by a former hotel employee, explain how Payne died, or show that his death could have been prevented.
What the reported CCTV shows
PerthNow published its account on 17 October 2025, one year after Payne’s death, and credited the images to The Sun UK. The article says footage showed Payne outside the hotel at 3:48 p.m. and later reclining in the lobby at 4:28 p.m. on 16 October 2024. It reports that he died shortly after 5 p.m. that day. These are times reported by the article, not an independently established full chronology of his final hours. PerthNow’s report speculated, attributing the suggestion to The Sun, that Payne might have been meeting someone; the footage as described does not demonstrate that.
What Ezequiel Pereyra alleged
PerthNow’s account includes remarks from Ezequiel David Pereyra, a former hotel employee accused of supplying drugs to Payne. Pereyra denied the charge. He alleged that hotel managers ignored Payne’s drug use and failed to call an ambulance when Payne passed out in the lobby. He was quoted as saying, “If the hotel acted differently, Liam could have been saved.” That is Pereyra’s view, not a finding by a court or a conclusion established by the CCTV.
The footage and the allegations should be kept distinct: CCTV may document what a camera captured, while Pereyra’s statements are claims about what hotel staff knew or did. The report does not make those claims proven facts.

What prosecutors and courts have said
Payne died on 16 October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. In a 7 November 2024 statement, Argentina’s federal prosecution said the investigation considered testimony, video, messages, documents, invoices, social-media material and communications. It reported toxicology findings of alcohol, cocaine and a prescribed antidepressant in the period before Payne’s death. The statement did not establish that any one substance caused the fall. The prosecution’s November 2024 account describes investigative findings, not a complete judicial determination of responsibility.
In February 2025, an appeals court confirmed the processing of two men over alleged paid drug supply and dismissed manslaughter charges against three other defendants at that stage. Processing is a procedural decision, not a conviction. The prosecution’s summary of the ruling sets out that stage of the case.

In June 2025, federal prosecutors said they had sought oral trial for Braian Nahuel Paiz and Pereyra on charges of paid supply of narcotics. That is the prosecution’s position and a request for trial, not proof that either man committed the alleged offense. The June 2025 prosecution report summarizes the case evidence cited in support of the request.
Custody status: conflicting reports require caution
On 26 March 2026, the Buenos Aires City Judiciary reported that Judge Karina Giselle Andrade ordered Paiz and Pereyra released from custody subject to conditions, including a travel restriction and monthly reporting. The report said prosecutors considered the investigation complete and saw no causal link between the accused men’s conduct and Payne’s death. The judiciary’s release report records that decision.

A 30 September 2026 El Comercio report, citing unnamed case sources through Infobae, said two defendants had been ordered into preventive detention. The materials available here contain no official order or independent corroboration explaining that report in relation to the March decision. The later custody status therefore cannot be stated as certain on this record. El Comercio’s report is secondary reporting, not the underlying court order.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the footage should be treated carefully
The Buenos Aires judiciary has reported a judicial prohibition on publishing images or videos related to the case that show Payne’s body or his condition shortly before death. The stated purpose was to protect dignity, privacy, memory and his family’s interests. The report does not establish whether every CCTV image discussed by PerthNow falls within the order’s scope. The judiciary’s notice on publication restrictions describes the measure; anyone considering reproducing sensitive footage or stills should verify the underlying order and its current reach.
