Yes. After founding member and last surviving original member Gary Rossington died on March 5, 2023, Lynyrd Skynyrd announced it would continue performing live. The band said it had the support of the families of Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, as well as Dale Rossington, and described the decision as a way to carry the music and legacy forward. The announcement was tied to the band’s 50th-anniversary year and its 2023 tour with ZZ Top.
Why did Lynyrd Skynyrd decide to keep touring?
The band and the families involved presented the decision as a commitment to the music and to the people who created it—not simply as a lineup change. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s official history says the band, the families of Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, and Dale Rossington reached unified support for continuing live performances.

Johnny Van Zant explained that the music was meant to be experienced live, adding, “So we will continue to perform for the Skynyrd Nation.” Dale Rossington said Gary’s dream would continue through Johnny, Rickey and the other band members carrying his legacy and music to future generations. These are the band and family’s stated reasons for the decision.
The announcement followed the death of Gary Rossington on March 5, 2023. The band’s history identifies him as an original founding member and places the decision in the year marking 50 years since the 1973 debut album, Pronounced ‘Lĕh-’nérd ‘Skin-’nérd.

What was the 2023 tour plan?
The prominent 2023 run was the Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour, a North American co-headlining tour with ZZ Top and special guest Uncle Kracker. A Blabbermouth report published April 3, 2023, reproducing the announcement, listed 25 cities, with dates running from July 21 through September 17, 2023. The band’s official history also notes that it played stand-alone concerts that year.
A later Business Wire release dated August 1, 2023 described the ZZ Top run as covering more than 22 North American cities. Those reports use different city counts; the available information does not establish whether they refer to a revised schedule, a subset, or a different counting method. The April report is the source for the 25-city figure, while the August release uses “more than 22.”

Are those tour dates still current?
No. The July–September 2023 dates are historical, not a current ticket listing. Ticketmaster’s Lynyrd Skynyrd artist page, checked October 8, 2026, shows later touring context, including a 2026 co-headlining tour with Foreigner. Check the listing for current dates and availability; it should not be confused with the 2023 decision to continue after Rossington’s death.

The continuation announcement came during the 50th-anniversary year of the band’s 1973 debut. In August 2023, the band’s anniversary-era release included FYFTY, a four-CD collection, alongside the summer touring period. The anniversary collection and tour placed the decision to keep performing within a broader celebration of the band’s history.
The band’s official history also preserves Gary Rossington’s earlier description of its intent: “We’re still standing, Still keeping the music going. We wanted to do the guys who aren’t with us any more proud – and keep the name proud, too.”
