Warner Bros. announced Trap as M. Night Shyamalan’s next film as a director, initially scheduling it for theatrical release on August 2, 2024. That was the studio’s original plan, not a universal opening date: Warner Bros. listed August 1 for Latin America and August 7 for Italy. The thriller follows a father and daughter at a concert as law enforcement tries to catch a wanted murderer.
What Warner Bros. announced
Warner Bros. named Trap as Shyamalan’s next directorial project when announcing a multi-year first-look arrangement with the filmmaker. The studio’s announcement gave the film an initial theatrical date of August 2, 2024. That date describes the schedule announced at the time; it should not be read as a single worldwide opening date. Is Trap based on a true story?
No. Netflix Tudum says the movie is not directly based on a true story, though the real sting operation Operation Flagship was a partial inspiration. That makes the operation a point of inspiration, not the film’s factual source or a claim that its events happened as depicted. Netflix Tudum’s film guide
