What changes in Belly’s Season 3 look?
Season 3 gives Belly a more defined, self-directed style than her earlier beach-centered look. Teen Vogue describes the makeup as luminous and soft but more deliberate, with shaped brows, blush, tinted lips and a soft cat-eye. In its character-study interview, Lola Tung describes the wardrobe direction as “a slight preppiness, a sort of classic simplicity and a more elevated shoe occasionally.”
The change is not a complete reinvention. Tung recalls younger Belly wearing comfortable oversized T-shirts and bathing suits, fitting a character who loves swimming. She also names Taylor and Susannah as influences on Belly’s way of dressing. Teen Vogue’s retrospective describes Season 1 as natural and beachy and Season 2 as more muted during the story’s grief-focused period; those earlier-season readings are partly fan and creator interpretations, rather than a formal wardrobe guide.

Makeup artist Tara Sall, speaking in an interview reported by Teen Vogue from PopSugar, described the character’s development this way: “She’s not try-hard, but you can tell she’s now putting in effort.” Teen Vogue lists ILIA Clean Line Liquid Eyeliner in Midnight Express as one possible product for readers recreating the look. For the bachelorette-party cat-eye
Teen Vogue describes the bachelorette-party makeup as one of Belly’s most intense looks in the series to that point. Why does Belly cut her hair in the finale?
After travelling to Paris, Belly appears with a bob in the finale. The haircut follows an early-season moment in which Jeremiah tells her, “Hey, don’t ever cut your hair, okay?” In Vogue’s interview, Tung says the shorter style lets Belly make a decision for herself and serves as “a physical representation of the growth and change she’s experienced.”
Jenny Han, the series’ executive producer and author of the books, connects the haircut to the impulse to let go after a breakup: “The idea is that if you look different, then you can feel different.” Tung likewise describes hair as holding “weight and memories and meaning,” and calls the moment freeing—a fresh start for Belly.

The bob is a screen illusion, not a full haircut
Vogue reports that the hair team cut the front of Tung’s real hair and used a U-line wig at the back, with her longer hair left underneath. The technique created the short-haired appearance on screen while preserving the length beneath it.
