Hulu is not simply disappearing. Disney has been moving Hulu content and account features into Disney+, while working toward a more unified app experience. As of the company’s August 2026 update, however, Disney had not announced a final launch date or a new price for that unified experience. Disney has also said customers would continue to be able to subscribe to Hulu and Disney+ separately.
What “Hulu moving into Disney+” means
Disney’s plans involve several stages, not one completed switch. Hulu began taking a larger role inside Disney+ before the promised unified experience was finished. It is useful to distinguish three things: Hulu-branded content appearing in Disney+, linking a Hulu profile to Disney+, and completing a unified app experience.
- Hulu branding and content: Disney announced that Hulu would become the general-entertainment brand on Disney+ globally, replacing Star in international markets, beginning October 8, 2025. The company described the app changes as preparation for a unified experience. Disney’s announcement.
- Profile linking and account management: In 2026, Disney introduced ways for eligible subscribers to link Hulu profiles and use Disney+ for features such as subscription management. That is an integration milestone, not proof that the standalone Hulu app has shut down.
- A unified app: Disney has described this as a future experience. Its public statements in 2026 still treated the larger app unification as forthcoming.
For viewers, that means some Hulu programming or account functions may be accessible through Disney+, but the announcements do not establish that every Hulu feature, title, or subscription has already moved into one finished product.
When is Hulu supposed to be in one app?
Disney has pointed to 2026, but its statements have not supplied a confirmed day or month. On February 2, 2026, then-CEO Bob Iger estimated that the “one app experience” would arrive sometime toward the end of the calendar year. On March 18, CEO Josh D’Amaro said Disney was moving quickly to bring the services into a unified experience “later this year.” Those are company estimates and targets, not a dated launch commitment. Disney’s August 5 update described a milestone already reached: Hulu standalone and bundle subscribers could link profiles and manage subscriptions on Disney+. It did not announce a final date for completing the broader unified experience. Disney’s August update.
Will Hulu go away?
Disney’s stated position in 2026 was that customers would still be able to buy Hulu and Disney+ independently. A May 19 consumer update also said Hulu subscribers would continue to have access to the standalone Hulu app. These statements support continued standalone access at the time Disney made them; they do not guarantee that terms or availability will never change. How much will the combined experience cost?
Disney has not announced a new price for the unified experience in the official updates covered here, through its August 5, 2026 update. There is no supported basis to state what it will cost or whether the move to one app will change what subscribers pay.

If you are choosing between subscriptions now, check Disney’s current official plan terms and prices for your location before subscribing. Do not assume that a past bundle price or the cost of separate subscriptions will be the price after app unification.
What subscribers can do now
- Check whether your subscription is eligible for profile linking. Disney’s May 2026 instructions concerned eligible bundle subscribers; its August update broadened the stated milestone to Hulu standalone and bundle subscribers. Availability can depend on the account and current terms.
- Use Disney+ for linked features if they are available to you. Disney said linking can bring Hulu profile elements such as watch history, watchlist and recommendations into Disney+, and that subscribers could manage subscriptions there. See Disney’s May 2026 guidance.
- Keep using the standalone Hulu app if that is your preference. Disney said in May 2026 that Hulu subscribers would continue to have access to it; check the latest account terms for any later changes.
- Wait for an official price and rollout announcement before making a decision based on the future app. The August 2026 update established profile-linking progress, not a new integrated price or a final launch date.

In September 2026, Disney announced that Adam Smith’s remit would oversee Disney+ and Hulu across product, engineering, advertising technology, programming strategy, viewer experience, partnerships and analytics.
