Spoilers for the series finale, Season 6, Episode 15, “Stay.” Annalise survives the courthouse climax and dies years later, in old age. The funeral is real, but the young man who looks like Wes there is his adult son, Christopher Castillo. In the final scene, Christopher becomes a criminal-law professor at Middleton and echoes Annalise’s famous course title.

What happens in the finale?

In “Stay,” Annalise faces her final legal reckoning at the courthouse. During the case, she plays an audio recording from a flash drive Frank gave her: a call between Hannah Keating and Xavier Castillo. The recording helps resolve the immediate courthouse crisis, and Annalise survives it.

The funeral teased throughout the season is not a cover story or an immediate consequence of the trial. It takes place years later, after Annalise has lived to old age. The time jump reveals that the funeral scenes were showing a distant future, not the outcome of the courthouse events.

Does Annalise die in the finale?

Yes, but not during the courthouse climax. Annalise lives beyond the trial and dies in old age, years later. Her death is the one marked by the funeral; it is separate from the present-day violence at the courthouse.

Who is at Annalise’s funeral? Is it Wes?

The man viewers may initially mistake for Wes is Christopher Castillo, Wes and Laurel’s son, as an adult. Alfred Enoch plays Christopher. The reveal turns the funeral into more than a resolution to the mystery of Annalise’s fate: it brings the story back to the next generation.

What happens to Frank and Bonnie?

Frank and Bonnie both die in the finale’s present-day climax. Their deaths occur long before Annalise’s death in the time jump, so the funeral is not theirs.

What does Christopher write on the board at the end?

Christopher is a criminal-law professor at Middleton. In the closing scene, he introduces his course with “How to Get Away with Murder,” the phrase Annalise made famous. The final image returns the series to its opening classroom premise: a new professor takes up the role, and the course title carries Annalise’s legacy into Christopher’s generation.

What does the ending mean?

The finale answers two central questions raised by the season: whether Annalise’s apparent death meant she would die during the trial, and whether the figure at her funeral was Wes. She survives the immediate crisis; the funeral belongs to a much later point in her life; and the apparent Wes is Christopher.

Christopher’s final classroom scene gives those answers a larger shape. The series began with Annalise teaching the course that gave the show its title, and it ends with Christopher teaching it. That handoff is the finale’s closing statement about what remains after the courtroom conflicts and the characters’ losses.
