If Spotify lyrics are not showing, first check another song. Lyrics are available to Free and Premium users, but Spotify does not provide them for every song or device; availability can also vary by market and rights-holder agreements. If lyrics are missing across tracks, use the steps below to check the display controls, connection, app, and browser.
Why are Spotify lyrics not showing?
The pattern is the first clue: lyrics missing for one song may reflect availability, while lyrics missing across songs or on just one device may point to a display, connection, app, or browser issue. Spotify says lyrics may not be available on all songs and devices, and new lyrics are added over time. Availability can vary by market and rights-holder agreements. Spotify’s lyrics help page says the feature is available to both Free and Premium users.
- One song: try lyrics on another track. If only one lacks lyrics, Spotify may not offer them for that song.
- One device: compare with another device or the web player to see whether the issue is local to an app or device.
- All Spotify playback: check whether Spotify is online and whether other apps or websites can connect.
How to open lyrics and check the preview setting
Lyrics appear in different places depending on how you use Spotify. Confirm you are looking in the right area before changing app settings.
- Mobile or tablet: play a song, open the Now Playing bar, then scroll down to Lyrics.
- Desktop app or web player: play a song and select Lyrics.
On mobile, open the Now Playing three-dot menu and check whether Lyrics preview has been toggled off. Lyrics preview is not available on music videos. Spotify’s instructions are in View lyrics.

Check Spotify’s connection
- Make sure Offline mode is off.
- Open another app or webpage. If those cannot connect either, check your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
- If you are on a school, work, hotel, or public network, restrictions or firewall settings may interfere. Try a different network if available.

Refresh the app before reinstalling it
- Close and reopen Spotify.
- Install any available Spotify update.
- Check for an operating-system update for your phone, tablet, or computer.
- Clear Spotify’s cache if the problem continues.
- Reinstall Spotify only as a later step. Reinstalling removes downloaded music and podcasts from the device, so you will need to download them again.
Spotify’s general playback troubleshooting also recommends testing another device or the web player.

Test another device or troubleshoot the web player
Try the same song on another supported device or in Spotify’s web player. If lyrics work elsewhere, the issue is more likely tied to the original app, device, or browser than to your account generally.
If the web player is the problem, update your browser and try a private or incognito window. Network restrictions can also affect it; test the desktop app or another network if possible. Spotify’s web player help also explains protected-content errors: these may require enabling browser DRM or Widevine. Some Windows 10 N editions may need the Media Feature Pack.

When there is no user-side fix
If lyrics remain absent for a particular track or device after these checks, Spotify’s stated explanation is that lyrics are not available in every case. The official guidance does not identify a setting that forces lyrics to appear when Spotify does not offer them. Switching from Free to Premium, changing language, reinstalling, or buying equipment cannot guarantee lyrics for that track.
