To create an IMDb page, first decide whether you mean a page for a film, show, podcast, or other work—or a professional name page for a person. For a work, search IMDb and submit a contribution for a new title only if there is no matching page. For a professional page, search for existing listings and claim the right one through IMDbPro; if none exists, use its Create New Page option. An IMDb user profile is different from either of these.
Which kind of IMDb page do you need?

How do I add my movie, short film, or other work to IMDb?
- Search before submitting. Look for the exact title and likely variants. A page may already exist even if you did not create it.
- Edit an existing match. Open the title and select Edit page to propose corrections or additions. IMDb also provides an edit-pencil route from title pages.
- Start a new-title contribution only if there is no match. Use IMDb’s Adding a New Title workflow. IMDb accepts a range of title types; its guidance notes that visually recorded work is likely eligible and that audio-only podcasts can also be submitted. Eligibility depends on IMDb’s rules, so submission does not guarantee a listing.
- Choose the correct title type and complete the requested fields. Supply accurate information, such as cast and crew, release dates, budget, or genre when applicable. Do not add unverified credits or embellish production details.
- Submit for review. IMDb reviews title contributions and may seek verification. The cited title-submission guidance does not establish a universal processing time, so do not assume a particular approval date.
IMDb’s help page says that if a search produces no match, contributors can tick the box at the bottom of the form to create a new page. Its Adding a New Title instructions were updated 12 March 2026.
How do I get an IMDb page for myself?
- Search your professional name first. Check alternate spellings, older names, and common variants. IMDb warns that creating a second page when one already exists can produce a duplicate.
- Sign in to IMDbPro and find the matching page. IMDb’s instructions for Premium members direct users to select a profession or category (or skip that step), search their professional name, and choose Claim Page for the correct result.
- If no page exists, choose Create New Page. Confirm that there is no existing listing under another spelling before proceeding.
- Submit the claim or page request for review. IMDb says the request is reviewed and that an email notice should arrive within 24 hours. That is IMDb’s stated notification expectation—not a guarantee of approval within that period.
IMDb’s claim instructions require an IMDbPro Premium or Basic subscription to use these page-claiming features. Basic members are directed to claim their page while creating the subscription. Do I need IMDbPro to create an IMDb page?
Not for a title contribution: IMDb’s title workflow uses its online contribution form. The cited IMDbPro requirement applies to claiming or creating a professional name page through the claim workflow. These are separate tasks, so needing a film’s title page does not by itself mean you need IMDbPro.

What happens after submission?
Both title contributions and professional-page requests are subject to review. Provide accurate information and supporting details when requested, and do not treat a submission or claim as accepted until IMDb confirms it. IMDb pages can also originate from submitted credits; its claim-page guidance describes the claim process in that context.
