Not all of them were unfamiliar with it: Joel Perez, who voices Valentino, said he watched Vivienne Medrano’s Hazbin Hotel pilot on YouTube in 2020, before he auditioned. The available accounts do not establish what every member of the series’ new cast knew about the pilot.
What Joel Perez said about the pilot
In an October 30, 2025 roundtable with The DeMonster, Perez recalled stumbling across the pilot on YouTube in 2020. “I watched it, loved it, and became a fan of Vivienne,” he said. When the opportunity to audition later came up, he was excited about it.
That is a firsthand account from one cast member: Perez knew the project before auditioning. It does not show that every actor had seen the pilot—or that the rest had not.
How the YouTube pilot became a Prime Video series
The pilot was part of the show’s public history well before the streaming series. The Los Angeles Times reported that Medrano uploaded a 30-minute pilot to YouTube in 2019. The newspaper also reported that A24 signed on to produce a full season in 2020, with Bento Box Entertainment as co-producer.

In a January 2024 interview listing, Nerdist described the show’s journey from YouTube to Prime Video. That transition helps explain why cast members might have encountered the project at different points, but it does not establish any individual actor’s viewing history beyond Perez’s account.
How widely had viewers seen the pilot?
The Los Angeles Times reported 93 million views for the pilot in its January 19, 2024 profile. That is a dated figure, not a current view count. It indicates the pilot had a large audience by then, but it cannot tell us whether a particular actor had watched it.

What the cast accounts do—and do not—show
The defensible answer is specific: Perez said he watched and liked the pilot before auditioning. The sources available here do not provide a cast-wide survey or enough individual accounts to determine how familiar the full cast was with Medrano’s YouTube work. One actor’s recollection should not be generalized to the entire ensemble.
The DeMonster’s roundtable was published as the first two episodes of Season 2 began airing on Prime Video on October 30, 2025. That publication context is not evidence of the cast’s earlier awareness of the pilot.
