What Elton John contributes
The collaboration is billed to Sam Fender and Elton John, with John playing piano on Fender’s song. Fender said the piano riff made him think the track needed a strong pianist, prompting him to call John. John recalled that Fender was recording in West London and asked him to play on a song built around a piano riff. He said he could not resist and enjoyed the session. What the song means to Sam Fender
Fender described “Talk To You” as a song about the end of a long relationship, focusing on regret, mistakes and what the experience teaches. He also characterized its emotional center as losing a best friend and coming to terms with that. That is Fender’s stated interpretation; the available statements do not establish that the song recounts a specific event in his personal life.
