No public evidence supports the claim that Mark Hamill refuses to see his granddaughter. In a June 2025 interview, he spoke warmly about her; a report also says he included her in a caption about an Easter 2024 family photo. Those details indicate affection and reported family contact, but they do not settle the private history of the custody dispute involving his son Nathan and Maegan Chen.
What Mark Hamill has said about his granddaughter
On the June 4, 2025 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hamill spoke about being a grandfather. PEOPLE reported that he said: “My granddaughter Autumn is just lovely, and it’s true what they say. You can spoil them rotten, let them stay up late and eat candy before dinner, and then hand them back to the parents.” The same report quotes him saying, “Everything you’ve heard about being a grandparent is true, and I love it.”
PEOPLE identifies Autumn as Nathan Hamill and Maegan Chen’s daughter, born October 31, 2016. Hamill’s public comments are inconsistent with the idea that he rejects or refuses to see her, though they cannot establish the frequency or circumstances of private visits.
What the Easter 2024 photo caption adds
PEOPLE also reported that Hamill posted an Easter 2024 family photo with a caption that listed “family including wife, all 3 children, granddaughter & trio of puppies.” This is a public account of Autumn being included in a family gathering. It offers additional evidence of contact, but a caption does not document the full family relationship or the custody arrangement.

How the custody-battle claim should be treated
A 2023 AmoMama article recounted allegations attributed to Chen about her pregnancy and said the Hamill family had not addressed those accusations. That is secondary coverage, not a court record or an independently established finding. The report linked to a 2016 New York Post article, but the details of that original report cannot be confirmed here; allegations should not be presented as judicial findings.
The exact question about whether Hamill refused to see his grandchild appeared in a July 2, 2023 The Things headline. A question in a headline is not proof that the conduct occurred. Later public comments by Hamill are relevant to the present-tense claim, but do not by themselves resolve what happened between the adults during the earlier dispute.
