What was the D23 Disney+ deal?
In an August 28, 2019 report, BGR described a prepaid offer of three years of Disney+ for $140. The promotion required D23 membership, which the report said could be free, and had a September 2, 2019 deadline. BGR characterized the prepaid cost as less than $4 per month when averaged over the three years; that was an effective historical cost, not a current monthly rate. What crashed—and what did not?
BGR reported that a surge of visitors caused an access problem on the D23 Fan Club website as people tried to reach the offer. It relayed an explanation from an unnamed Disney spokesperson about heavy traffic affecting access to the site. That account describes the D23 website, not a failure of the Disney+ streaming service.
What can you choose instead in the U.S.?
Disney currently lists standalone Disney+ plans and bundles with Hulu, with some configurations also including ESPN Select or ESPN Unlimited. The available combinations differ in services and advertising, so compare the experience and services you want rather than choosing by bundle name alone. Redemption is required by December 31, 2026. If the Disney+ subscription or Perks membership is cancelled, the monthly D23 Gold membership is cancelled too. D23’s discounts and offers page notes that benefits can change or be cancelled without notice, and that some require a valid D23 Gold member card. The expired 2019 promotion does not establish a standing D23 discount on Disney+.
