Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

That does not make it the better service for everyone. Spotify remains stronger for discovery, social listening, Spotify Connect, and people who want podcasts, audiobooks, or a free tier in the same app.
Quick verdict: Choose Apple Music if you care most about high-end audio formats, Apple integration, albums, classical music, or Apple One value. Stay with Spotify if you rely on its recommendations, device handoff, social features, free listening, or broader all-audio offering.
1. Apple Music has the higher technical ceiling for audio
Apple Music offers Lossless up to 48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless from 48 kHz to 192 kHz, alongside Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio where available, without a separate charge for those formats. Spotify Premium now also offers lossless playback: its support page describes FLAC up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz on compatible devices. So the old claim that Spotify has no lossless audio is outdated; Apple’s distinction is the broader format range and its Dolby Atmos catalog. Apple Music formats · Spotify lossless details
That is a technical advantage, not a promise that every track will sound better. The recording and mix, your headphones or speakers, the room, and your hearing all matter. Bluetooth may prevent the full lossless signal from reaching your headphones, while Hi-Res Lossless may call for a wired setup and an external USB DAC. Dolby Atmos is also mix-dependent: a spatial version can be compelling, but it is not automatically preferable to stereo.

Set audio quality deliberately
On iPhone, open Settings > Music > Audio Quality, turn on Lossless Audio, then choose separate quality levels for Wi-Fi, cellular streaming, and downloads. Apple says playback quality depends on the song’s available format, network conditions, and connected equipment; larger lossless files also use more data and storage. Apple’s iPhone lossless playback guide
In Spotify, open the app, tap your profile picture, then go to Settings and privacy and Media quality on Android, or the corresponding Audio Quality control on iOS. Choose Lossless for streaming or downloads where available. Spotify notes that device and app support, market rollout, connection method, bandwidth, and the source recording can affect playback; Bluetooth and Spotify Connect may also change what reaches the listening device. 2. It fits naturally into an Apple-centered routine
If you already use an iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay, Apple TV, or HomePod, Apple Music feels like part of the same account and device setup rather than another service to wire into it. Siri requests, the music library, and Apple Music Classical all sit within Apple’s ecosystem. Apple Music is not limited to Apple hardware: Apple lists support for Android, Windows, Sonos, smart TVs, Amazon Echo, Google Nest, and other platforms. Apple Music platforms and features
The main counterpoint is Spotify Connect. Spotify makes playback control across supported devices a central feature, which can be more convenient in mixed-brand homes or when moving music between a phone, computer, and speaker. Both services support major car environments, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Spotify, but the exact experience can depend on the vehicle, phone, and connection method. 3. I prefer Apple Music’s album-and-library feel
This is a matter of taste, not a universal product ranking. I like having albums and artists at the center of the experience, and I want saved music to feel like a collection I chose rather than one part of a broader audio feed. Apple Music pairs its catalog with lyrics, music videos, radio, artist content, editorial playlists, interviews, and performances. Apple Music features
Spotify’s broader approach is a strength for listeners who want music alongside podcasts, audiobooks, social listening, and personalized features. Its recommendations and playlists are also a serious draw. If your favorite part of streaming is discovering new tracks through algorithmic mixes, there is no sound basis here for saying Apple Music will do that better. The preference is narrower: I want a service that feels more like a music collection, while Spotify feels more like an all-purpose audio platform.

4. Apple Music Classical makes the service more useful for classical listeners
Apple Music Classical is included with Apple Music Individual, Family, and Student plans, and Apple says it is also available through Apple One. The dedicated app is designed for classical browsing, with composer and artist information, work descriptions, search, and recommendations; it shares a library with the main Apple Music app and supports online and offline listening. Apple Music Classical details
That dedicated organization can help when a listener is searching by composer, work, performer, or recording rather than by a pop-style song title. It is a meaningful reason to choose Apple Music if classical listening is a regular part of your routine. If it is not, the companion app may not change your decision; Spotify still offers a broad music catalog and editorial programming, but the reviewed official sources do not establish a directly equivalent dedicated classical app.

5. The household price can work out better
These are the prices displayed on the vendors’ U.S. plan pages, not guaranteed prices for other countries or future renewals. Promotions may be temporary and eligibility-based. Apple’s page currently shows an Individual plan card at $11.99 per month, but its explanatory FAQ text still says $10.99; confirm the renewal amount on the checkout screen before subscribing. Apple Music U.S. plans · Spotify U.S. Premium plans
| Plan | Apple Music (U.S.) | Spotify (U.S.) |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | $11.99/month on Apple’s plan card; the same page also contains stale $10.99 FAQ text | $12.99/month |
| Student | $6.99/month; Apple says the plan includes Apple TV at no additional cost | $6.99/month; Hulu access is subject to eligibility and terms |
| Two people | No Duo plan listed on Apple’s current page | Duo: $18.99/month for two accounts; members must live at the same address |
| Family | $19.99/month, shared with up to five other people (six people total) | $21.99/month for up to six accounts; members must live at the same address |
| Bundle | Apple One starts at $19.95/month and bundles Apple Music with other Apple services | No comparable Apple-services bundle listed on the cited Premium page |
Apple Music is listed $1 less than Spotify for Individual and $2 less for Family, while Spotify offers the lower-priced two-person plan. The practical winner depends on who will use the plan and what else the household pays for: Apple One can be worthwhile if you already want its included Apple services, while Spotify’s Hulu or audiobook benefits may matter more to an eligible subscriber. Spotify Premium also includes offline downloads of up to 10,000 songs per device across up to five devices, with an internet connection required at least once every 30 days. Apple confirms offline listening but does not state a matching headline download limit on its cited page. Spotify offline download limits · Spotify Premium benefits
Quick Recap
What I would miss from Spotify
- Spotify Connect: Its device-control experience is a strong reason to stay if you regularly move playback between different brands of speakers, TVs, computers, and phones.
- Discovery: Spotify’s personalized playlists and recommendations may already know your habits well. Apple Music is not established as universally better at finding new music.
- Social listening: If you use Spotify’s sharing, Blend, Jam, or other social habits with friends, switching means giving up that familiar shared environment.
- More than music: Spotify promotes podcasts and audiobooks alongside music, with audiobook access and listening limits depending on the eligible plan and terms.
- A free option: Spotify has an ad-supported free tier. Apple Music does not offer a general free ad-supported music tier.
How to test Apple Music before switching for good
- Start the plan or trial shown for your account. Check the renewal price, eligibility, and end date rather than judging the service by a temporary promotion.
- Move only the playlists you rely on. Before canceling Spotify, check that essential playlists and albums are present; obscure, region-specific, live, remix, and alternate-version tracks may need to be found or rebuilt manually.
- Listen to familiar music, not just new recommendations. Compare albums you know in stereo, lossless, and Dolby Atmos where those versions are available. Use equipment you already own before buying a DAC or headphones.
- Test your real routine. Try CarPlay or your usual car connection, headphones, downloads, search, and switching between your everyday devices.
- Try Apple Music Classical if it matters to you. See whether its organization helps you find the works and recordings you actually play.
- Give recommendations time. After several days of listening, compare whether Apple Music is surfacing music you want, rather than deciding from its first session.
- Keep Spotify active until the replacement works. Check family access, offline albums, and the transferred library before ending the old subscription.
Who should choose Apple Music?
- Choose Apple Music if you use Apple devices and value integration, listen to complete albums, want Apple Music Classical, care about Dolby Atmos or Hi-Res Lossless, or can save through Apple One or a Family plan.
- Stay with Spotify if you depend on Connect, its recommendations or social tools, need a free tier, use its podcasts or audiobooks, want Duo for two people, or prefer a service built around mixed-brand device control.
