Nintendo Music is Nintendo’s game-soundtrack streaming service for smart devices. The app is free to download, but using it requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and the Nintendo Account linked to that membership. You do not need a Switch console. Install the app on a supported iPhone, iPad, or Android device, sign in with the eligible account, then stream tracks or download them for app-based offline listening. Nintendo also describes browser access on PC and laptop.
What Nintendo Music is—and what it is not
Nintendo Music offers music from Nintendo games through a Nintendo-operated service. Its catalog spans multiple franchises and generations, but it is selective: Nintendo does not claim that every game soundtrack is available. The catalog can change as Nintendo adds music. It is not a general-purpose alternative to Spotify or Apple Music, and it is not an app to install on a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 console. The mobile app is available for iOS and Android; Nintendo’s service page also describes access through a PC or laptop browser. What you need before installing
- A supported region. Nintendo lists the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Availability can change; check Nintendo’s current regional list if the app is absent from your store.
- A Nintendo Account and paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. The account you use in Nintendo Music must be entitled to that membership. Nintendo says eligible new users may be offered a seven-day Nintendo Switch Online trial; eligibility and availability vary. - A compatible device. Nintendo lists iOS 16 or later and Android 9 or later. Android devices with 2 GB of RAM or less are not supported, and Nintendo does not support versions installed outside Google Play. - Internet access. You need a connection to sign in and stream, and to download music before listening offline.

How to install Nintendo Music
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the Apple App Store and search for Nintendo Music, or open Nintendo’s App Store listing.
- Confirm the publisher is Nintendo, then tap Get or the download button. Authenticate if prompted.
- Open Nintendo Music when installation finishes.
On Android
- Open Google Play and search for Nintendo Music.
- Confirm the app is published by Nintendo, then tap Install.
- Open the app after it has installed.
Use Google Play rather than an APK repository: Nintendo says it does not support installations outside Google Play. If installation fails, update the device’s operating system and check its RAM and regional app-store availability.
On a PC or laptop
Nintendo’s current online-service page describes browser access on a PC or laptop. Use Nintendo’s Nintendo Music service page to reach the current access option; the mobile installation steps above do not apply to browser use.
How to sign in and link the right Nintendo Account
- Launch Nintendo Music and choose the sign-in or account-linking option.
- Sign in with the Nintendo Account that has an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, or is included in an eligible family membership.
- Approve the account connection and wait for the app’s home screen and library to load.
For a family membership, use the Nintendo Account that is actually included in the family group. The account that paid for the membership is not automatically the correct account for every family member. If you are unsure, visit the Nintendo Account portal, select Nintendo Switch Online, and check Active Plan. Nintendo’s membership troubleshooting guide covers this mismatch.

How to find and play music
- Browse the home page, use search, or choose a game or franchise category.
- Open a soundtrack or album and select a track.
- Use the player controls to pause, skip, repeat, or adjust playback options.
- Save music to Favorites or a playlist when you want to return to it.
Available controls and labels can change as the app is updated. Nintendo’s support center covers app features including recommendations, audio quality, favorites, playlists, spoiler prevention, and playback settings.
How to download music for offline listening
Nintendo Music supports offline listening, but you must download tracks in the app while connected to the internet. Downloads are app-managed playback, not permanent MP3, FLAC, or other files that you can export. Nintendo says downloaded tracks can expire after an extended period offline. Offline-listening details
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open the soundtrack, album, playlist, or track you want available offline.
- Tap its download control and wait for the download to finish.
- Find the saved content in the app’s library or downloads area.
- While still online, test playback before travelling or entering an area without connectivity.

Create a playlist
Nintendo’s documented steps are: tap My Music at the bottom of the screen, tap + Create Playlist, tap Playlist Name, enter a title, then tap Done in the upper-right corner. App labels may change. Nintendo’s playlist instructions

Use the sleep timer
The player includes a sleep timer that stops playback after a selected period. It can be useful for bedtime or background listening. How Nintendo’s sleep timer works
Extend selected tracks
Nintendo lists an Extend to… playback feature for selected music. It extends playback; it does not create a new downloadable remix or audio file. Track support and options can vary. Nintendo Music support
Reduce spoilers while browsing
Nintendo lists spoiler-prevention controls in the app. Turn them on before browsing if game titles, track names, or artwork might reveal story details you want to avoid. Treat the setting as a convenience, not a guarantee that every piece of metadata will be hidden. Nintendo Music support

Troubleshoot common problems
The app does not appear in the store
- Check whether Nintendo Music is available in your country using Nintendo’s regional list.
- Confirm your device meets the iOS or Android requirements and that you are using the correct official store.
- If the listing is still missing, check your app-store country or account restrictions. Do not rely on sideloaded apps as a supported workaround.
The app says you need a membership even though you have one
The account signed into the app may differ from the one with membership access. Sign out, then sign in with the eligible Nintendo Account. Check Nintendo Account portal → Nintendo Switch Online → Active Plan; for a family plan, confirm that this account is part of the family group. Follow Nintendo’s membership troubleshooting steps.
Account linking freezes or fails
Close other apps and browser tabs, then try the linking flow again. Nintendo recommends Chrome as the default browser for account linking on Android; on iOS, check Safari settings. Cookies, JavaScript, pop-ups, content blockers, VPNs, and data-saving settings can interfere. Nintendo’s platform-specific steps are in its account-linking troubleshooting guide.
Downloaded music no longer plays
Reconnect to the internet and open Nintendo Music to refresh downloads. If you see error 9009-2201 on Android or 9010-2101 on iOS, Nintendo’s recovery instructions call for leaving the app open online for around 30 minutes. On Android it may stay in the background; on iOS keep it in the foreground, since sleeping the device or switching apps can interrupt the process. Nintendo’s error-code guidance

Is Nintendo Music worth using?
If you already pay for Nintendo Switch Online and primarily want Nintendo game soundtracks, the app is an additional membership benefit with no separate Nintendo Music subscription. It offers official Nintendo-focused browsing and features such as playlists and offline playback.
If you would subscribe only for music, weigh the membership’s cost in your country against a selective Nintendo soundtrack catalog. It is a poor match if you want a broad general-music library, permanent DRM-free files, or a music app on the Switch console itself.
