No new actor has been announced to play Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in Avengers: Doomsday. The casting news that may be causing confusion is separate: Disney announced David Jonsson as the new Black Panther in Black Panther 3, playing T’Challa’s son, not T’Challa in Doomsday.
What has been announced for Avengers: Doomsday?
Disney’s March 26, 2025 cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday included Letitia Wright. Disney’s current film page identifies Wright as Shuri in official imagery alongside M’Baku and the Dora Milaje. Neither the cast announcement nor the current page names a new actor as Boseman’s T’Challa.
Disney currently lists Avengers: Doomsday for release on December 18, 2026. The earlier May 1, 2026 date in the 2025 cast announcement has been superseded by the current film page.
Why are people asking whether Black Panther is being recast?
In March 2025, reports circulated that Marvel might recast T’Challa for Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Black Panther producer Nate Moore rejected the rumor at that time, telling ComicBook.com, “The truth is, there’s no truth to those [recast] rumors.” Moore also said that creative conversations with director Ryan Coogler had not begun because Coogler was finishing Sinners. His remarks addressed the rumor then; they should not be read as a later casting update.

Who is David Jonsson playing in Black Panther 3?
On July 25, 2026, Disney announced David Jonsson as the new Black Panther in Black Panther 3, which it set for December 15, 2028. The Associated Press identifies Jonsson’s character as the son of Boseman’s T’Challa. That makes Jonsson a new bearer of the Black Panther mantle in the third film—not a confirmed recast of T’Challa for Doomsday.
Jonsson said after the announcement, “Thank you to this family that I have the honor and the blessing to join. I don’t want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking.”
