Reports about the Chinese version of Arcane season 2 describe softened or removed moments involving Caitlyn, Maddie and Vi. The comparisons circulated by viewers prompted jokes that one intimate scene looked like a “BFF sleepover”—but the accounts do not establish who made the edits, why they were made, or whether the clips represent the complete official regional versions.
What the reports say changed
The scene descriptions come from press reports relaying viewer-circulated comparisons, not from an official statement or a verified shot-by-shot review of both regional masters. Gizmodo’s November 27, 2024 report and PinkNews’s November 28, 2024 report discuss changes in the Chinese version specifically.

Caitlyn and Maddie’s bedroom scene
In the second act, Caitlyn is shown with Maddie Nolen in a bedroom. Gizmodo describes the version it identifies as the original as implying recent intimacy through neck kisses and the characters’ clothing. In the version viewers circulated from China, the broad situation remained, but expressions and staging that made the intimacy clear were reduced. Gizmodo relayed a viewer’s joke that the result looked like a “bff sleepover.” Gizmodo’s account attributes the comparison to viewers rather than an official source.
Caitlyn and Vi in the finale
Gizmodo describes the original finale scene as bringing Caitlyn and Vi close together as they reaffirm their commitment. In the reported Chinese version, the framing and proximity were changed and close-ups were removed. PinkNews also characterizes the finale as presenting the pair as a couple. These are descriptions in the reports, not confirmation from Netflix, Riot Games, Tencent or a regulator. PinkNews reported on the comparisons.

A separate intimate scene reportedly cut
Gizmodo also says an intimate Caitlyn-and-Vi scene was cut from the version under discussion. The reporting does not establish that the entire surrounding sequence was removed, so it is more precise to describe the reported change as a scene being cut.
Why viewers found the changes funny
The humor in the online reaction came from viewers reading the reduced expressions, closeness and staging as turning romantic intimacy into something that could be mistaken for friendship. Gizmodo reproduced fan posts including “my friend is showing me how arcane looks like in china” and the description “China gives Arcane a different ending the world is not ready for.” Those are audience reactions, not neutral labels or evidence of an editor’s intent.

What is—and is not—established
- The reports concern the Chinese version of season 2; the material covered here does not establish altered versions in other markets.
- The reported comparisons concern Caitlyn with Maddie, Caitlyn with Vi in the finale, and a separate intimate Caitlyn-and-Vi scene.
- The source accounts relay comparisons shared by viewers. They do not independently verify the complete official regional releases.
- The reports do not establish who made or required the changes, what rule or rationale was involved, or whether a distributor or regulator directed them.
PinkNews reproduces the finale exchange, in which Caitlyn asks, “Are you still in this fight, Violet?” and Vi replies, “I’m the dirt under your nails, cupcake. Nothing’s going to clean me out.” That dialogue helps explain why viewers read the scene as affirming the relationship, but it does not independently confirm the reported edits.

Netflix’s production feature identifies Arcane as an animated series created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, based on League of Legends, and made by French animation studio Fortiche Production in partnership with Riot Games. That production background identifies the series’ creative and production partners; it does not implicate them in the reported changes. Netflix Tudum’s production feature covers how the series was made.
The British Board of Film Classification database lists episode classifications and content advice for Arcane, including Netflix streaming and later physical-media classifications in the UK. Those records provide UK ratings context, not evidence about edits in China. The BBFC’s Arcane listings can be consulted for those classifications.
Separately, GKIDS announced on June 10, 2024 that it had acquired worldwide videogram and digital transactional rights to season 1, excluding China, and outlined physical and digital release plans including a 4K edition. That announcement applies to season 1; it does not establish season 2 physical-media availability. GKIDS’ announcement states the scope of those rights.
