Bada Naam Karenge is a nine-episode Hindi drama-romance on SonyLIV about an arranged match complicated by a connection the young couple made during lockdown. Its appeal is the tension between family tradition and the leads’ ambitions; its limitation is that the familiar story and some gender expectations may feel dated to viewers looking for a fresher romance.
What is Bada Naam Karenge about?
SonyLIV’s synopsis brings Rishabh and Surbhi together for an arranged marriage, then adds a secret: they already formed a connection during lockdown in Mumbai. The story moves to small-town Madhya Pradesh. The Times of India places the action in Ratlam and Ujjain, describing Rishabh as an MBA student who hopes to expand his family’s mithai business and Surbhi as an ambitious young woman intent on helping her family.
The resulting conflict is not simply tradition versus romance. Both leads have goals and personal choices, but family approval and inherited customs carry real weight in their lives. The series asks how much room those ambitions can have within a family-first outlook.
Does the blend of traditional values and modern ideas work?
That balance is the show’s central point of interest—and its main source of friction. The Times of India sees tradition and ambition as capable of coexisting, while India Today finds the family-first perspective and gender expectations potentially dated. In its review, India Today’s Arushi Jain pointed to restrictions within Rishabh’s household as an example of how family authority can limit individual freedom.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The series may suit viewers who enjoy stories where family ties shape a couple’s choices rather than sit in the background. If you want the younger characters’ independence to take precedence over family approval, the same emphasis may feel frustrating. The tension is present, but the show’s outlook does not necessarily challenge every expectation it depicts.
What are the series’ strengths and weaknesses?
Warmth, music, and performances
Both reviews identify appealing elements in the show’s presentation. The Times of India praises its nostalgic family atmosphere, central performances, music, and intergenerational message. India Today also highlights the romance, family moments, music, and performances. Together, those strengths make the series a plausible choice for viewers who want an ensemble family drama with a romantic thread.

A familiar story and uneven pace
The trade-off is freshness and momentum. Jain calls the plot simple and cautions that its dated gender roles may not resonate with everyone. Khurana’s Times of India review finds some backstory and dramatic family revelations overextended. If you prefer tightly paced plotting or a romance that breaks sharply from familiar conventions, those are reasonable reservations.

Consider it if a warm family setting, music, and a romance shaped by arranged-marriage expectations sound appealing. Go in with measured expectations about originality and pacing: the critics’ main reservations concern the familiar plot, gender roles, and stretched revelations. Its strongest hook is the push and pull between the younger characters’ goals and the family traditions around them.
