The announcement confirms a sequel project, but the report did not specify a release date, format, or staff. “Season 2” is convenient shorthand; the reported official wording is “anime sequel.”
What was announced?
Crunchyroll News reported on December 19, 2025 that production of an anime sequel had been confirmed. The announcement coincided with publication of the manga’s final chapter in Hana to Yume. The official Yona of the Dawn account’s statement, reproduced in Crunchyroll’s report, said: “And, as announced in the second issue of Hana to Yume released today, production of an anime sequel has been decided!” The English wording is a translation of the Japanese statement, not an original English quote. Crunchyroll’s announcement report
The report uses “anime sequel,” not a formally confirmed title of “Season 2.” Calling it a second season is understandable shorthand, but the announcement itself does not establish the project’s exact format or how much of the story it will adapt.
When will the sequel come out?
The December 19, 2025 report gave no release date or premiere window. It also did not name the sequel’s staff or specify its format. No date should be inferred from the announcement alone; those details remain unconfirmed by the cited report.

Why does the announcement come after more than a decade?
VIZ says Yona of the Dawn became an anime in 2014. Comparing that year with the sequel announcement on December 19, 2025 supports “more than a decade,” but not an exact ten-year interval. No explanation from a named individual for the gap was reported, so its cause is unknown.
What is Yona of the Dawn about?
VIZ describes Yona as a princess whose protected life changes after tragedy strikes her family. Mizuho Kusanagi created the manga, which VIZ lists in its English catalog alongside the anime adaptation. VIZ’s official series page
