Emma Stone’s career offers plenty to celebrate: memorable performances across comedy and drama, two best actress Academy Awards, ambitious collaborations with director Yorgos Lanthimos, and documented work with a youth mental-health organization. The record also includes a casting decision in Aloha that drew criticism for whitewashing. The available evidence supports examining that controversy—not inventing four more to fill a headline’s count.
15 things about Emma Stone that make us admire her
1. She built a career across genres
Stone’s screen work ranges from the teen comedy Easy A to large-scale studio films and more formally adventurous projects. The range matters more than any single label: she has moved between comic timing, drama, musicals, and period stories. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation retrospective and a Vogue profile offer career context.
2. Easy A gave her a breakout role
In Easy A, Stone anchored a high-school comedy with a performance built around narration, wit, and self-awareness. It remains one of the clearest early examples of her ability to make a sharply written comic character feel engaging rather than merely clever.
3. She took on a demanding musical in La La Land
Stone’s role as aspiring actor Mia called for singing, dancing, and carrying an emotionally changing story. Her performance helped make the film’s show-business dreams feel personal rather than abstract.

5. She has taken on morally complicated roles
The Favourite placed Stone in a sharp-edged period drama where power, rivalry, and manipulation drive the story. It was a substantial change of tone from a conventional leading-role showcase.
6. She embraced the heightened style of Cruella
In Cruella, Stone played a character whose fashion, ambition, and theatrical flair are central to the film’s identity. The role let her work in broad, stylized studio storytelling rather than the naturalistic register of some of her other performances.

As Bella Baxter in Poor Things, Stone played a character whose understanding of herself and the world changes radically. The role depends on making that development legible through behavior and performance, not just through the film’s unusual visual design.

It was a direct acknowledgment of filmmaking as collective work.

13. She has a documented connection to youth mental-health advocacy
The Child Mind Institute identifies Stone as a board member who joined in 2019 and describes her advocacy and charitable involvement in support of underserved youth and cancer-related causes. The organization is the basis for describing that public involvement; it does not establish specific outcomes attributable to her.
14. Her public profile includes institutional service
Board service is a concrete form of affiliation, distinct from a general expression of support. The Child Mind Institute’s account gives a named organization and a year for Stone’s involvement, rather than relying on an unsourced claim about her private character.
15. Her career leaves room for artistic risk
From an accessible comedy like Easy A to the strange, stylized world of Poor Things, Stone has not confined herself to one genre or screen persona. That variety gives viewers more than a single reason to follow her work.

What doesn’t sit right: the Aloha casting controversy
The clearest documented criticism in the available record concerns the 2015 film Aloha. Stone, who is white, was cast as a character described as part Asian and Hawaiian. The casting drew criticism as whitewashing: the concern was that a white actor had been chosen for a role with Asian and Hawaiian identity.
A career-summary page reports that Stone later regretted taking the role, but that account is tertiary rather than a primary interview. It is therefore fair to describe the reported regret with attribution, but not to present an exact quotation or expand it into claims about her motives. The source for the casting controversy and reported response is the Emma Stone career summary.
Why the criticism matters
The issue is about representation and the consequences of casting choices, not a verdict on Stone’s private character. A film’s casting can prompt legitimate questions about who gets considered for roles tied to particular identities. That criticism can be taken seriously without treating one controversy as proof of a person’s entire character.
Why this list does not claim five separate negatives
The evidence here establishes one distinct controversy, not five well-sourced examples. Repeating different formulations of the same casting decision would inflate the count, while adding rumors or unsupported judgments would be unfair. A responsible account is clearer about that limit than a longer list built to match a number.

How to weigh the record
Stone’s public work includes notable performances, major awards, production activity, and an institutional connection to youth mental-health advocacy. The Aloha backlash also belongs in an honest account of her career. Admiration need not mean overlooking a criticism, and acknowledging a criticism need not erase the work that audiences value.
