There’s no reliable “men’s taste” or “women’s taste” that can pick a show for two people. A better shared choice starts with what you both want tonight: easy laughs, a mystery, emotional drama, science fiction, or a low-stakes food series. This list covers those different entry points; it is a set of suggestions, not a ranking or a promise that every pair will agree.
If you’re unsure, choose by mood and try the pilot together. Before settling in, check the show’s current episode count, content guidance, and streaming availability in your country; catalogs and rights change.
Start with a comedy you can watch for the characters
The Good Place
A high-concept comedy is a good pick when you want something playful with a premise to discuss. Peacock lists The Good Place as a four-season, TV-14 comedy from 2016. Its official synopsis follows Eleanor Shellstrop, who arrives in the afterlife and discovers she has been mistakenly sent to the Good Place. Peacock’s series page.
Schitt’s Creek
Choose this family sitcom if you like character comedy and a small-town setting. Disney+ lists six seasons spanning 2015–2020 and describes the wealthy Rose family moving to a town they once bought as a joke. Disney+’s series page.

Modern Family
This family mockumentary is an option for viewers who prefer an ensemble of characters and a sitcom format. Check its current episode count and local availability before committing to a long binge.
Community
Pick Community if you both enjoy self-aware comedy, genre parody, and comic premises that can get deliberately outlandish. Its humor is more referential than a straightforward family sitcom, so the pilot can help you decide whether the style works for both of you.
Pick a workplace ensemble for a shared cast
Abbott Elementary
This workplace comedy centers on teachers at a Philadelphia public school. ABC describes it as a comedy about the educators brought together there and points viewers to Hulu for streaming. ABC’s show page.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
A workplace sitcom about a police precinct can suit a pair looking for fast-moving ensemble comedy. Peacock includes Brooklyn Nine-Nine in its binge-watch collection, while Netflix Tudum has included it in an editorial list of rewatchable shows. Those are editorial placements, not evidence that every audience—or every couple—prefers it. Peacock’s binge-watch collection and Netflix Tudum’s rewatch list.

How to agree on what to watch
Use a few practical questions to narrow the list rather than guessing from gender:
- Mood: Are you both after laughs, comfort, suspense, or emotional intensity?
- Format: Would you rather watch mostly self-contained episodes or follow a continuing plot?
- Shared interests: Is there overlap in workplace comedy, mystery, science fiction, sport, food, or family stories?
- Commitment: How much time do you want to spend before reaching a satisfying stopping point? Check current episode counts rather than relying on old listings.
- Content comfort: Are there themes or intensity levels one of you would rather avoid? Use reliable content guidance for specific concerns.
- Availability: Check the show on the services available in your country today. Streaming rights vary by region and change over time.
Service listings are useful for confirming a title’s premise or stated season information, but a dated rights announcement is not a guarantee that a show remains available. For example, Hulu announced on April 28, 2022, that it would become the dedicated U.S. subscription video-on-demand destination for Schitt’s Creek beginning October 3, 2022; that announcement describes a past rights arrangement, not today’s catalog.
