“Casting couch” is a broad term for sexual propositions or pressure linked to auditions, jobs, or career access. The accounts below are not all the same: some describe explicit requests tied to work, others describe sexualized auditions or harassment after a role was booked. They are public accounts reported by the outlets cited—not, by themselves, independently adjudicated findings.

Zoe Kazan
The Guardian quoted Kazan describing harassment by a producer while she was working on a scene. She said: “He’d say, ‘Oh, it’s a joke, ha ha.’ But he was also paying my cheque and then watching me from the monitor as I made out with another actor.” Her account concerns conduct on a production after work was underway. The Guardian
Thandiwe Newton

Glenn Close
Vanity Fair quoted Close recalling an audition where there was a bed in the room and the actor she was asked to read with did not know his lines. “I was asked to come in and read with an actor who was huge at the time, and I walked in and there was a bed,” she said. The report does not identify the actor, so no identity can be inferred from her account. Vanity Fair

Radhika Apte
Apte’s account included an important qualification: Hindustan Times reported that she said she had not received a direct request to sleep with someone. She also recounted other uncomfortable incidents, including a call asking whether she would be willing to sleep with a person for a film meeting. Hindustan Times
Kalki Koechlin
Hindustan Times quoted Koechlin saying she left when she felt uncomfortable. That brief account does not give details about the person involved or the precise circumstances, so it should not be expanded into a more specific allegation. Hindustan Times

The label can obscure meaningful differences. Some accounts describe a direct sexual proposition attached to access or employment; others describe harassment during work, an uncomfortable audition, or a reported incident without a clearly stated career bargain. The sources also vary: they include direct quotations, statements reproduced by a newspaper, and reporters’ summaries. Keeping those distinctions visible is essential, especially where a person is unnamed or an account is an allegation rather than an established finding.
The Guardian’s 2017 reporting on Equity’s Manifesto for Casting said the union guidance recommended that “no sex act should be requested at any audition” and that a performer asked to undress should have a mutually agreed observer. This is dated union guidance, not a statement of current universal law. The Guardian
The cited reports do not establish a reliable prevalence estimate for casting-couch incidents. They document attributed experiences, not how often such conduct occurs across an industry.
