Taboo season 2 is still a possibility, but it has no confirmed filming or release date. In a January 10, 2026 interview, creator Steven Knight said he and Tom Hardy have discussed what they would do, and that “it’s just finding the space.” That signals interest and ongoing conversations—not that production has begun.
What is the latest Taboo season 2 update?
Speaking to Radio Times on January 10, 2026, Taboo creator Steven Knight said: “Well, Tom and I have talked about it, and I think we know what we would do.” He added: “It’s just finding the space. But I’d love to, I get asked about it – especially in the States, actually – I get asked about it a lot.”

Knight’s remarks establish that he and Hardy have discussed a possible second season and that Knight wants to make it. They do not announce a production start, filming schedule, cast, episode count, or premiere date. The interview is an update from a creator, not a new order or production announcement from FX or BBC.
Was Taboo renewed, or was season 2 already ordered?
FX and BBC One ordered a second season in March 2017, as reported by Broadcasting+Cable. That is the show’s historical season-two order; it should not be confused with confirmation that the season is currently in production. Knight’s 2026 comments point to scheduling as the obstacle, but do not state that the earlier order has led to filming.

When could Taboo season 2 come out?
No release date has been announced in Knight’s interview, and it gives no filming date from which to estimate one. Until FX or BBC provides a production or premiere announcement, a specific season-two arrival date is unconfirmed.
What is Taboo about?
FX’s official series page places the drama in 1814. Tom Hardy plays James Keziah Delaney, who returns to London from Africa to inherit what remains of his father’s shipping empire. The series was created by Tom Hardy, his father Chips Hardy, and Steven Knight.

What does “Emmy-nominated” mean for Taboo?
The Television Academy’s 2017 record lists two Emmy nominations for Taboo: Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role for “Episode 1,” and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) for “Episode 1,” credited to Max Richter. These are series nominations in visual-effects and music categories; the record does not show Tom Hardy as an Emmy-nominated actor for Taboo.
