Marvel’s 85th-anniversary video, released on 29 August 2024, offered brief first looks at Thunderbolts*, Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. The clips showed characters and costumes, not substantial plot details.
When Marvel released the first-look footage
Marvel released the video on 29 August 2024 as part of its 85th-anniversary celebration. The “85th” was the anniversary branding used in coverage at the time; it is not a separately measured statistic. TechRadar and ComicBook.com reported on the footage and described it as a collection of short glimpses rather than a full trailer or story reveal.
What the clips showed
Thunderbolts*: a team gathers at an elevator
The brief footage showed Yelena Belova, Red Guardian and Bucky Barnes preparing to leave an elevator. Contemporaneous coverage also identified U.S. Agent and Ghost among the other visible team members. The clip did not explain why they were together or what their mission was.
Daredevil: Born Again: Matt Murdock in the red suit
Charlie Cox appeared as Matt Murdock, wearing Daredevil’s red suit and mask. It was an official first look at the character in the series, but the footage did not offer a substantive plot reveal.

Ironheart and additional glimpses
Dominique Thorne appeared as Riri Williams flying through Chicago in her custom-built suit. Coverage also noted glimpses of Captain America: Brave New World and Agatha All Along, making the anniversary video a wider MCU showcase than its two headline projects.
How much did the first looks reveal?
| Project | What viewers saw | What the clip established |
|---|---|---|
| Thunderbolts* | Yelena, Red Guardian and Bucky preparing to exit an elevator; U.S. Agent and Ghost were also identified in coverage. | Character and team imagery. The reason for the gathering and the mission were not explained. |
| Daredevil: Born Again | Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the red suit and mask. | A first official look at the character, not a substantive trailer or plot explanation. |
| Ironheart | Riri Williams flying through Chicago in her custom-built suit. | A brief character and suit glimpse. |
The first two projects also represent different formats: Thunderbolts* is a film, while Daredevil: Born Again is a series. The footage itself provided little basis for comparing their stories.

What was said about Daredevil: Born Again
After Marvel’s D23 presentation, Jon Bernthal, who returns as the Punisher, said of the series: “If you’re a fan of the show that you saw before, you’re gonna be a fan of this.” That is Bernthal’s opinion, not a guarantee about the finished series.
