The guest star was Heidi Swedberg, who played Susan Ross, George Costanza’s fiancée. Jason Alexander later said he struggled to find the comic rhythm in scenes with her—but he apologized the next day and stressed that he and the cast liked Swedberg. His story was about difficulty playing off a character, not the cast’s dislike of the actress.
Who was the Seinfeld guest star?
Heidi Swedberg played Susan Ross, the woman George Costanza becomes engaged to in Seinfeld. Susan is a recurring character whose relationship with George ends in Season 7’s episode “The Invitations.”
The headline claim that the cast “couldn’t stand working with” Swedberg overstates what the available accounts establish. The central source is Jason Alexander’s own recollection, followed by his clarification the next day.
What Jason Alexander said about working with her
On June 3, 2015, Alexander discussed the story on The Howard Stern Show. In a June 4 report, The Washington Post reported that Alexander described his comic instincts and Swedberg’s as “always misfiring.” He said he personally could not figure out how to play off her.

In the same report, Alexander said: “I love her. She’s a terrific girl. I love her. I couldn’t figure out how to play off of her.” That distinction matters: he described a performance challenge, not personal animosity toward Swedberg.

Alexander apologized and clarified his comments
On June 4, Alexander posted an apology and explanation. The Washington Post reproduced his clarification, in which he wrote: “I and the cast really liked and like Heidi.” He said he had been uncertain about how to play George opposite Susan and worried that his performance was not working.
Alexander also said Swedberg had asked whether she could do anything differently. He regretted not offering suggestions or adjusting his own performance. In a correction reproduced by Entertainment Weekly, he wrote: “People clearly liked the interplay even though I believed I was ‘off’.”

Why was Susan killed off?
Susan’s death was a plot solution to ending her engagement to George, not a consequence of the actress being disliked. In “The Invitations,” Susan dies after licking toxic glue on the wedding invitations. The episode reference for “The Invitations” identifies the Season 7 story and its place in the series.
In his clarification, Alexander said Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld wanted an inventive way to end George’s engagement. He explained that the “killing” remark referred to Susan as a fictional character, not to Swedberg. He also said the relationship was playing as its creators intended and that he could see George and Susan’s pairing working.
