The eight-episode limited series moves briskly, though its expanding conspiracy and political commentary do not always feel as sharp as its opening hook.
What is The Madness about?
Colman Domingo plays Muncie Daniels, a media pundit who witnesses a murder in the Poconos and is framed for the crime. As he tries to identify who is behind it and clear his name, the story grows into a conspiracy thriller involving disinformation, political polarization, race and the media. Muncie’s flight also puts pressure on his estranged family relationships, giving the chase a personal stake beyond survival.
Netflix describes the series as a US thriller. Marsha Stephanie Blake plays Muncie’s estranged wife, Elena Daniels, and John Ortiz plays Franco Quinones. The show’s premise connects a familiar fugitive setup to a contemporary question: how can anyone establish what is true when every account is contested? Creator and co-showrunner Stephen Belber puts that concern this way: “The notion of objectivity is really hard to come by as we navigate all the information that’s coming at us 24/7.” Netflix Tudum
Does Colman Domingo carry the series?
He is its strongest through-line. Muncie is not simply a person running from danger: he is a public commentator whose professional identity depends on interpreting events, now caught in a situation where his own account is disbelieved. Domingo gives that contradiction emotional weight, keeping the character engaging as the story pushes him through increasingly extreme turns.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That performance matters because the plot gets crowded. TheWrap finds the initial setup gripping but describes the larger series as overstuffed and occasionally didactic. Time likewise argues that Domingo’s work and Muncie’s complexity help the show succeed, while criticizing false equivalences and goofy portrayals of political factions. Their shared point is useful for setting expectations: the lead performance is a more consistent asset than the show’s handling of every idea it raises. TheWrap · Time
Do the twists and political themes work?
The opening has clear propulsion: a witness becomes a suspect, and Muncie has to move fast while trying to work out what he has stumbled into. The conspiracy gives the series room to escalate beyond a straightforward man-on-the-run story. That scale can be entertaining if you want a thriller that keeps adding new forces and explanations to the danger.

The trade-off is that escalation can become clutter. The show’s political concerns—disinformation, polarization, race and the credibility of media—are relevant to Muncie’s predicament, but the commentary can feel over-explained beside the suspense. TheWrap’s criticism of didactic passages and Time’s reservations about the political framing reflect different aspects of the same unevenness: the series raises worthwhile questions, but does not always trust the thriller to carry them. The conspiracy is part of the fiction, not evidence that the story depicts real events.
