The November 1, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live opened with a New York City mayoral debate parody: Miles Teller played Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef played Zohran Mamdani, and Shane Gillis played Curtis Sliwa. Kenan Thompson moderated as political commentator Errol Louis, while James Austin Johnson appeared as President Donald Trump. Brandi Carlile was the musical guest.
What happened in the cold open?
The sketch staged a fictional NYC mayoral debate. Thompson’s Errol Louis moderated as the candidates—Teller’s Andrew Cuomo, Youssef’s Zohran Mamdani, and Gillis’s Curtis Sliwa—faced off. Johnson made a cameo as Donald Trump. These are the roles identified in Peacock’s episode recap; the recap does not provide a transcript of the sketch.
What else was in Miles Teller’s episode?
Peacock’s recap describes an episode mixing political humor with character sketches and live music. Its sketch descriptions include:
- Monologue: Teller reflected on his childhood, his fandom of SNL, and his family home being lost in the Pacific Palisades fires earlier that year.
- Hockey PSA: A community-outreach spot for NHL players turns into a run of double entendres, with Teller as a Nashville Predator.
- Missing Wives Docuseries: A mystery parody built around husbands who fail to notice their wives are away on trips or errands.
- White House Makeover: Teller plays a Property Brother in an HGTV-style renovation sketch with Johnson and Chloe Fineman.
- Newsroom: Workplace satire involving an exposed computer screen and a rogue printer.
- Weekend Update: Colin Jost and Michael Che host, with Bowen Yang appearing as George Santos.
- Italian Restaurant Date: Teller and Marcello Hernández play servers flirting with a customer’s wife.
The network’s recap also lists Carlile performing “Church & State” and “Human.” Those descriptions establish the episode’s lineup, not a ranking of which sketch audiences liked best.

Teller also hosted the October 1, 2022, Season 48 premiere, but that was a different episode with Kendrick Lamar as musical guest. Its cold open was a Manningcast parody: Teller played Peyton Manning opposite Andrew Dismukes as Eli Manning. Peacock’s 2022 episode listing and contemporaneous coverage by The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times identify that earlier appearance. The 2025 episode instead features the NYC mayoral debate cold open and Carlile as musical guest.
