Spoilers for “The Mailman,” episode 5 of Paradise season 2. The hour centers on Gary, played by Mindhunter actor Cameron Britton, and reveals that he—not Ennis—betrayed the survivor group. A flashback to Gary’s life in an Atlanta post office shelter also brings new weight to Teri’s long separation from Xavier.
Gary’s apocalypse plan begins in an Atlanta post office
In Brittany Frederick’s March 9, 2026 review, Gary first appears as an ordinary mail carrier who becomes convinced by a gaming friend that an apocalypse is coming. The two prepare by gathering people with useful skills and establishing a shelter in the basement of an Atlanta post office. Dr. Louge, who is also connected to Samantha Redmond’s bunker plans, features in this history.

The post office gives Gary’s backstory a concrete setting: it is both a place where people try to survive together and a space Xavier later passes through. The overlap links Gary’s earlier world to Xavier’s journey without making the two men’s experiences identical.
Teri and Gary’s bond reframes her separation from Xavier
Gary grows close to Teri Rogers-Collins, played by Enuka Okuma. Teri has spent years apart from her family, and her connection with Gary adds another perspective to the separation story established through Xavier’s search. Rather than focusing only on what Xavier has lost, the episode gives more context to the life Teri lived while away from him.

That history makes the relationship consequential in the present, too. Gary’s attachment to Teri is part of what turns the episode’s final revelations into more than a question of group loyalty.
The betrayer is Gary, not Ennis
The central present-day reveal identifies Gary as the person who betrayed the survivor group, overturning suspicion directed at Ennis. The turn changes how his awkwardness and warmth read: qualities that initially make him seem harmless can now sit alongside a capacity for menace.

Frederick’s review reads Britton’s performance as a gradual movement through pain, warmth and threat. That interpretation helps explain why the reveal can feel both frightening and sad: the episode has built a person, not just a plot twist. Gary’s betrayal also puts Xavier’s physical safety and emotional trust in a newly precarious position.
What the ending leaves unresolved
Gary’s feelings for Teri complicate the danger surrounding her and the child she protected. The episode leaves their situation uncertain; it does not settle what Gary will do or what the reveal means for their safety. That unanswered question is part of the hour’s impact, not a gap to fill with speculation.

Why the “Mindhunter” connection matters
The title’s reference is to Britton’s portrayal of Ed Kemper in Mindhunter, as Frederick’s review identifies it. That association primes viewers to expect menace, but Gary is not simply a repeat of Kemper. The episode’s tension comes from watching a distinct character shift from apparently gentle and socially awkward toward a threat with personal ties to the group.
Netflix describes Mindhunter as a late-1970s FBI behavioral-investigation thriller and names Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv among its stars; the official series page does not itself identify Britton or verify his role. Netflix’s Mindhunter page
