Yes—Brad Pitt is returning as Cliff Booth in The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Netflix announced that David Fincher will direct a new Quentin Tarantino script. Set in 1977, the film is scheduled to open globally in IMAX on November 25, 2026, for a two-week run, then debut on Netflix on December 23, 2026. Those are announced plans and may change.
What is the sequel called?
The official film title is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. It is distinct from The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the title of a companion book discussed below. Netflix announced the film title, creative team, cast, synopsis and release plan on September 21, 2026: Netflix Tudum’s announcement.
Who is making it?
- Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth.
- David Fincher directs.
- Quentin Tarantino wrote the new script.
The announcement also credits Erik Messerschmidt, ASC as director of photography; Donald Graham Burt as production designer; Kirk Baxter, ACE as editor; Laray Mayfield for casting; Trish Summerville for costume design; Ren Klyce for sound design; and Dave Macomber as stunt coordinator. Pitt and Ceán Chaffin are producers.
What is the story about?
Netflix places the story in 1977, eight years after the events of the original film, whose alternate-history story was set in 1969. Its synopsis presents Cliff as a Hollywood fixer who also works as a bartender or projectionist. Netflix describes the sequel as a crime story involving murder, blackmail, theft and extortion; that synopsis is a setup, not a complete plot summary.

Is there a Cliff Booth book too?
Yes. The Adventures of Cliff Booth is a separate Quentin Tarantino novelization, scheduled for December 8, 2026, from Harper, a HarperCollins imprint. Its title is not the film’s title, and it is a novelization rather than a published screenplay. The planned book date falls between the announced IMAX and Netflix dates. The Associated Press reported the announcement and quoted Tarantino saying, “Can’t wait for audiences to see and read Cliff Booth’s further adventures.” Associated Press report.
