Yes—Extreme Makeover: Home Edition returned in a new ABC version hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, the co-founders of The Home Edit. The revival premiered January 2, 2025; ABC announced that episodes would be available on Hulu the following day. This is separate from HGTV’s earlier reboot, hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Who hosts the ABC revival?
Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin lead the new series, bringing their home-organizing background to a family-centered renovation format. ABC described them as authors of three New York Times bestselling books and creators of home and organization product lines. The network also cited more than 9 million social-media fans in its May 2024 announcement; that is a figure reported at the time, not a current follower count.

The hosts’ role is more than choosing finishes. In ABC’s announced premise, they work with families to assess their belongings and help shape homes around the way each household lives.
What happens in the revival?
The central idea remains a major home transformation for a family in need, with builders, contractors and volunteers contributing to the project. ABC said the hosts evaluate a family’s possessions and help tailor the redesigned home to its needs.

Taylor Morrison was named the revival’s exclusive homebuilder. Banijay Americas, the production company, said the company’s contractors would assist with reconfiguring homes for families’ lifestyles. The pilot was filmed in Taylor Morrison’s Emory Crossing community in September 2023, and the rest of the season was set to begin filming that fall.
How this version changes the renovation setup
Axios reported on premiere day that the revival put added emphasis on personal stories and healing, kept householders involved in the renovation instead of sending them away, and compressed the renovation period from a week to four days. Those are details reported about this iteration, not a guarantee that every episode follows an identical schedule.

Axios also reported that families received a lump sum intended to help offset costs. Producer Michael Heyerman told the outlet that receiving a house on the show has financial implications. The report does not establish that every family receives the same amount, so the lump sum should not be treated as a fixed or universal prize.
When did it premiere, and where was it available?
ABC announced the series premiere for January 2, 2025, at 8 p.m. EST. The premiere featured the Warren family, including a recently widowed mother in Austin. ABC said the show would stream on Hulu the day after its broadcast premiere. Those are the original launch details; they do not establish whether the series is currently in a particular streaming catalog or available in every region.

Which Extreme Makeover: Home Edition revival is this?
The title can refer to two distinct reboots. The ABC revival’s new hosts are Shearer and Teplin; HGTV’s earlier reboot starred Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The network, period and hosts are the clearest way to tell them apart.
| Version | Network and period | Hosts | Announced emphasis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earlier reboot | HGTV, 2020 season | Jesse Tyler Ferguson | Design-team renovation format |
| New revival | ABC, premiered January 2, 2025 | Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin | Organization-led, family-tailored home transformations |
The contrast describes how the two versions were presented; it does not mean the ABC series is a continuation of the HGTV season.
What was the “first look”?
ABC’s launch-day promotional video introduced the Shearer-and-Teplin-hosted version and pointed viewers toward Hulu. The revival is no longer an upcoming premiere: it launched in January 2025. Current viewing options may differ by date and region.
