AEW and Impact Wrestling’s crossover began in December 2020 with Kenny Omega, Don Callis and the AEW World Championship. It led to cross-promotion appearances and title-related storylines in 2021. In November 2021, AEW president Tony Khan said the door remained open but that nothing was booked. The available dated sources do not establish whether the companies worked together again after that interview, so the partnership’s present-day status is unverified.
How the AEW–Impact crossover began
The storyline opened on AEW’s Winter Is Coming in December 2020. Don Callis, then an Impact executive, helped Kenny Omega defeat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. Callis then said Omega would appear on Impact, making the cross-promotion part of the on-screen story. Wrestling Inc. reported on the crossover angle on December 8, 2020.
In a January 2021 interview, Khan connected the idea in part to Callis and Omega’s close relationship. He described Callis as an advocate for Omega and discussed the possibility of using him as Omega’s heel manager. That account helps explain the creative path into the crossover; it does not establish the terms of a formal partnership agreement. ComicBook.com reported Khan’s explanation on January 19, 2021.
What the partnership looked like in 2021
The collaboration was a cross-promotion: performers appeared across the two companies’ programming, and their stories involved championship stakes. In January 2021, Impact executive Scott D’Amore characterized the relationship as an early-stage crossover. Sports Illustrated’s January 5, 2021 interview with D’Amore covers how Impact viewed the arrangement at the time.

It is useful to distinguish what viewers saw on screen from what the companies had actually scheduled. The Omega–Callis angle introduced the crossover, while appearances and title-related developments carried it into 2021. The available reporting describes plans and collaboration, but does not document a contract’s structure or establish that every on-screen development represented a formal agreement between the companies.
What Tony Khan said about its status
By November 2021, Khan said the relationship was still possible but that there were no plans booked at that moment. Fightful reported his remarks on November 3, 2021: “It’s still open to do stuff” and “We don’t have anything booked right now.” Khan contrasted that point with most of 2021, when the companies had plans on paper. The comments describe the situation as of that interview, not a permanent end to the crossover. Read Fightful’s report of Khan’s comments.

Is AEW still partnered with Impact Wrestling?
The sources cited here do not establish whether AEW and Impact resumed collaboration after Khan’s November 2021 comments. Those remarks are too dated to confirm the companies’ status today, and the early cross-promotion does not by itself prove that an ongoing formal partnership exists. The most accurate conclusion from this evidence is that the crossover happened, was active in 2021, and has no verified present-day status in these reports.
