Reports say director Ida Bechtle’s film premiered at PyCon Greece on August 28, 2025, and was released on YouTube; those reports do not establish its current availability or distribution terms.
What the documentary covers
Linuxiac and I Programmer describe a story that begins with Guido van Rossum’s Python side project in the early 1990s in Amsterdam, then follows the language’s development and the community around it. Their summaries also describe historical conflicts and Python’s later adoption in areas including artificial intelligence and data science. These are reported outlines, not a verified scene-by-scene account of the film.
I Programmer reports that the documentary has 12 chapters. The reports do not provide a full chapter list or a complete, verified credit roll.
Director, premiere and reported participants
I Programmer identifies Ida Bechtle as the director and reports that the film premiered at PyCon Greece on August 28, 2025. Both I Programmer and Linuxiac reported a YouTube release at the time. Linuxiac and I Programmer name Guido van Rossum, Travis Oliphant and Barry Warsaw among the participants; Linuxiac also names Armin Ronacher and Mariatta Wijaya. These are examples reported by those outlets, not a complete participant list.

Linuxiac’s August 29, 2025 report and I Programmer’s August 29, 2025 report provide the published film descriptions. Their 2025 accounts do not confirm whether the film remains available on YouTube, where it can be watched, or whether access is free or paid today.
The Zen of Python connection
I Programmer says the film recites the Zen of Python and notes that Tim Peters provided source material but did not actively participate. The Zen is PEP 20, authored by Peters and published as an expression of guiding principles for Python’s design. One of its familiar lines is Peters’s “Explicit is better than implicit.” That is a line from PEP 20, not a quotation attributed here to the documentary.

What is and is not established about watching it
The available reports link the film to YouTube in 2025, but they do not establish present-day availability, territory restrictions, current access terms or an authorized DVD or Blu-ray edition. Confirm the film’s official page and its current access details before relying on an old release report.
