What did Beijing police say about Yu Menglong’s death?
The September 21 notice, attributed to Beijing’s Chaoyang police branch and reported by The Paper, said Yu, 37, died in an accidental fall after alcohol consumption. This is the publicly reported police account, not independent access to the underlying evidence. The cited news reports reproduce or summarize the notice; they do not provide the forensic records or surveillance footage themselves. The distinction matters: readers can accurately report what police concluded without presenting unexamined evidence as independently verified fact.

Which details remain unverified?
Early accounts included specific claims about a private gathering on September 10 and the circumstances around the fall. The police notice reviewed in the cited reporting does not substantiate those particulars.
- Do not treat reported gathering details, a precise time, floor, room, attendee count or discovery account as established facts.
- Do not infer motive, suicide, intoxication level or exact mechanics beyond what the family and police statements say.
- Police said some online claims were fabricated. The Straits Times reported that three women faced legal measures in connection with fabricated claims; this does not make unrelated online details reliable.
The existence of unverified detail is not evidence of a cover-up. It is a reason to distinguish the attributable statements from claims that the public police account does not confirm.
