Tengen Uzui’s wives are Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma. The story presents them as kunoichi who work together to support his missions. Official sources establish that role, but the materials cited here do not give a definitive explanation for why Tengen has exactly three wives.
Who are Tengen Uzui’s wives?
They are Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma. SEGA’s official licensed character profile describes all three as Tengen’s wives and as kunoichi skilled in combat and espionage. It says they work together as a unit to support his missions: SEGA’s character profile.
Why does Tengen have three wives?
Canon establishes that he has three wives, but the official character profile and publisher synopsis cited here do not explain why the number is specifically three. They confirm who the women are and what they do; they do not provide an author-confirmed reason for the exact number.
Some fan summaries attribute the arrangement to a tradition in the Uzui clan. Without checking that claim directly against the manga or an official fanbook, it should not be treated as established here. The reliable answer from these official sources is that the three wives are presented as a coordinated team supporting Tengen’s dangerous work.

What do the wives do in the Entertainment District arc?
Shueisha’s synopsis for manga volume 9 gives their mission a direct role in the arc: Tengen’s three kunoichi wives are gathering information in the Entertainment District when they lose contact with him. Tanjiro and the others go there with Tengen, setting the investigation in motion. See Shueisha’s official series page and volume 9 synopsis.

No conclusion about real-world marriage customs follows from the setting alone. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus interview describes Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as set in Japan during the Taisho era, but that context does not establish that Tengen’s fictional arrangement was ordinary or legally typical in historical Japan.
