The latest status report cited here, dated August 8, 2026, listed no confirmed release date or production start.
Is Denzel Washington returning for The Equalizer 4?
Washington has publicly said he intends to return. In an Esquire interview published November 19, 2024, he said: “I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five.” Esquire’s interview with Washington is the clearest direct evidence of his stated plan.

That wording signals intention, not a guarantee that a completed film will reach theaters. It does not establish that Sony has formally announced the production, that a schedule is set, or that cameras are rolling. Washington also said, “More people are happy about that—people love those daggone Equalizers,” and described the films as being “for me, too, because they’re for the people.”
What is confirmed about the film’s status?
A CloudsPress status report dated August 8, 2026 said the public record it reviewed had no official release date, production start, confirmed director, finalized cast, or official trailer. Those are the status claims of that report, not a fresh Sony announcement. CloudsPress’s August 8, 2026 update does not turn the absence of public details into proof that the film has been canceled.

As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends? protector by taking on the mafia.
- Washington’s stated intention: He said he would do films four and five in November 2024.
- Production and release milestones: The August 2026 status report did not identify confirmed dates or personnel for them.
- Cancellation: The cited status information does not establish that the project has been canceled.
Why reports about The Equalizer 3 being the end can mislead
Washington’s earlier comments in 2023 were interpreted as meaning The Equalizer 3 would be his last, although the later status report recounts that he also qualified his position with “Never say never.” His November 2024 statement changed the public picture: he then said he would make two more films. Older coverage of the trilogy as a finale should not be treated as proof that he ruled out returning afterward.

No release date or filming start is established by the cited reporting. Esquire said in November 2024 that there was no word on when either sequel would premiere; the later CloudsPress report likewise did not identify an official release date or production start. Without a confirmed announcement, a specific premiere or filming date would be speculation.
