Inception is Christopher Nolan’s 2010 science-fiction action film about a specialist who enters dreams to steal secrets—and is offered a chance to change someone’s mind by planting an idea instead. This guide explains the premise without spoilers, then discusses the ending and practical ways to find the film in your region.
What is Inception about?
Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is an extractor: he enters a person’s dream to take information from their subconscious. His next assignment reverses that work. Rather than steal an idea, Cobb and his team must implant one in a target’s mind—a process called inception. Cobb is offered the chance to recover the life he has lost if he succeeds.

The film moves between an international action story and the shifting, intimate spaces of dreams. Legendary describes it as an “original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams.”
What happens at the end of Inception? (Spoilers)
The ending deliberately leaves room for uncertainty about whether Cobb is dreaming or awake. The film does not provide a definitive confirmation, so the final image supports more than one interpretation. It is best read as an ambiguity the film chooses to preserve, rather than a puzzle with an officially settled answer.
