For the October 3–4, 2026 weekend, a current critics’ guide highlights five films across Netflix, Mubi, Hulu, HBO Max and paid digital rental or purchase. The mix includes a relationship drama, two very different horror films, a family-friendly adventure and a 2019 catalog favorite. “New” here means newly featured or newly available in this weekend’s viewing guide—not that every film is a 2026 release.

The picks below come from Tom’s Guide’s October 3–4 weekend list. They are editorial selections, not a ranked list based on one shared scoring system. Streaming catalogs and rental availability can vary by country and change over time, so check your local service before settling in.

What to watch, by mood
For an emotional drama: Tyler Perry’s Doing Life
Anika is a single mother and correctional officer who reconnects with Carousel, a reformed ex-con. The result is the weekend list’s warmer, relationship-centered option. Netflix’s October 2 guide also included the film among its weekly offerings and described it as heartfelt. Tom’s Guide’s weekend list · Netflix Tudum’s October guide
For cerebral, campy horror: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
Filmmaker Kris Williams looks to Billy Presley, a reclusive star of an old slasher franchise, for inspiration. Their meeting draws the franchise’s killer into the story. Expect horror and adult subject matter, rather than a light or family-oriented movie. Tom’s Guide’s weekend list
#1 Best Overall
For a family-friendly pick: Coyote vs. Acme
This live-action and animation hybrid sends Wile E. Coyote to court against ACME after its products repeatedly fail him. It is the gentlest fit in this selection, but it is not listed as subscription-included: Tom’s Guide describes it as available to rent or buy digitally. The same guide reports a $110 million gross and a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score; those are figures reported by Tom’s Guide in 2026, not independently verified here. For unsettling folk horror: Midsommar
Dani, grieving and emotionally adrift, travels with friends to a Swedish midsummer festival. Its welcoming surface gives way to violent rituals. This is a 2019 film, not a new 2026 production; it appears in Hulu’s October schedule as a catalog title. Tom’s Guide’s weekend list · Hulu Press’s October schedule

- Shrink-wrapped
For the most intense supernatural horror: Evil Dead Burn
After her abusive husband dies, Alice reunites with her estranged in-laws. A demon then possesses and kills members of the family while pursuing an ancient dagger. Tom’s Guide characterizes this installment as more disturbing and less dependent on the franchise’s dark humor than a typical entry. Tom’s Guide’s weekend list

Although the original weekend-guide title names Prime Video and Disney Plus, the five picks in the matching October 3–4 guide are on Netflix, Mubi, Hulu and HBO Max, with Coyote vs. Acme available through paid digital rental or purchase. That does not establish that Prime Video or Disney Plus has no new films this weekend; it means neither service supplies one of these five particular recommendations. Disney’s October schedule also combines broadcast programming with Disney+ and Hulu availability, so it should not be read as confirmation that these picks stream on Disney+.
