Paul Walter Hauser was announced to play Chris Farley in a biopic directed by Josh Gad, with a screenplay based on the biography The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts. The project was still awaiting a green light in Hauser’s March 2025 account; a later report in September 2025 described early 2026 filming as a plan, not a confirmed start. No release date is established by the reporting cited here.
Who is making the Chris Farley biopic?
New Line Cinema landed the project in a competitive situation, TheWrap reported on April 30, 2024. TheWrap said Paul Walter Hauser was attached to star as Farley and Josh Gad to direct. It also reported Lorne Michaels and Erin David as producers through Broadway Video, with Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber writing the screenplay. The report said the Farley family had blessed the project. These are reported attachments from the announcement, not confirmation that every arrangement remains unchanged. TheWrap’s announcement
What is the film based on?
The screenplay was reported as an adaptation of The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts, by Farley’s brother Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby. TheWrap described the book as a New York Times best-selling biography. It is the project’s reported source material, not the film itself. TheWrap’s report
Farley was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1997 and appeared in films including Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Airheads and Beverly Hills Ninja, according to TheWrap.
