What did investigators say about the deaths?
The initial account in February 2025
In early reporting, prosecutor Nicolas Rigot-Muller said the deaths were violent but that he could not establish that either was a homicide. “All hypotheses remain open,” he told The Guardian. That was the cautious public account at the time, not a final finding.

Later accounts in 2025
Us Weekly reported on 20 August 2025 that French officials had deemed the deaths murder followed by suicide in April, citing BBC News. In a statement dated 19 August, Kerr and Amanda described murder-suicide as the prevailing hypothesis in the absence of evidence of third-party involvement, while saying the official investigation was ongoing. This is the family’s characterization as reported by Us Weekly; it should not be read as a direct account of the case file or as proof of a final legal conclusion.
