Jurassic World Rebirth is set five years after Jurassic World Dominion. What is Jurassic World Rebirth about?
In the film’s official synopsis, dinosaurs have become largely unable to thrive across the planet and survive mainly in isolated equatorial environments. A covert extraction team sets out to collect genetic material from three enormous creatures representing land, sea, and air. In the film’s fictional premise, their DNA may make it possible to develop a drug with life-saving benefits; that is a plot device, not medical evidence.
The operation takes a dangerous turn when an aquatic dinosaur attacks a civilian family’s boat expedition. The family and extraction team end up stranded together on a forbidden island that once housed a concealed Jurassic Park research facility. The official synopsis hints at a discovery hidden for decades but does not reveal what it is.
How does the film connect to the Jurassic Park story?
The five-year jump from Dominion establishes a changed world: dinosaurs remain, but they are no longer flourishing everywhere. The island’s former research facility supplies a more direct link to the earlier films, while the hunt for genetic material gives the new story its own central mission.

Director Gareth Edwards described the intended feel as a return to the original film’s style, saying “Jurassic World Rebirth should feel as if Universal went into the vault and found a movie that they’d forgotten they’d made, a sequel to Jurassic Park from the nineties, with the vibe and style of the original.”

When did it release, and where can it be watched?
NBCUniversal’s guide lists the U.S. theatrical release as July 2, 2025. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced digital ownership and rental from August 5, 2025, followed by 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions on September 9, 2025. Those are announced U.S. release dates; current retailer stock and availability may vary by region.
The distributor lists more than an hour of digital bonus content, including an alternate opening, deleted scenes, making-of features, and feature commentaries. Bonus content can vary by edition and retailer. NBCUniversal’s guide mentions Peacock as a place to stream films from the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World trilogies, but that statement does not establish whether Rebirth is currently available there. Streaming catalogs change, so check the service’s current listing.
