Spoilers for the Season 3 finale: Jun-hee’s newborn, Player 222, wins the games. Gi-hun gives up his life to ensure the baby survives the final Sky Squid Game. The Front Man later leaves the baby and the 4.56 billion won prize with Jun-ho.
How Player 222 wins the final game
The last challenge is Sky Squid Game, played across three towers shaped like a square, triangle and circle. Players must push at least one participant off each tower. On the second and third towers, a player must also press a ground button to start the round for an elimination to count.
During the final tower confrontation, Myung-gi falls before anyone presses the button. His fall therefore does not count as an official elimination. The remaining contenders are Gi-hun and the baby.
Gi-hun can start the round by killing the baby and winning himself, do nothing and let both of them die, or start the round at the cost of his own life. He chooses the last option. Player 222 is declared the winner and receives the 4.56 billion won prize.

What happens to the main characters
- Gi-hun: He dies after choosing the baby’s survival over his own. Netflix’s finale explainer links the choice to Gi-hun’s rediscovered conscience and humanity.
- Jun-hee: She dies before the final game. After the baby crosses the Jump Rope walkway, Jun-hee steps off the platform so Gi-hun will not risk leaving the infant exposed by returning for her.
- Myung-gi: He falls during the final tower fight before that round officially starts, so the fall is not counted as an elimination.
- The Front Man and Jun-ho: The Front Man orders an evacuation after Gi-hun’s death and saves the baby. Six months later, he leaves the child and the prize with his brother, Jun-ho.
- Ga-yeong: The Front Man takes Gi-hun’s Season 1 winnings to Los Angeles and tells Gi-hun’s daughter that her father has died.
What the ending means, according to its creator
Creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk describes the baby as representing future generations, and Gi-hun’s sacrifice as the close of the protagonist’s journey. He said, “The baby coming out [as] the winner was in line with the meaning of Squid Game.” He also described Season 3 as “really about Gi-hun’s transformation, and how he overcomes what stands in his way.”
Hwang framed the ending’s broader message around shared responsibility rather than immediate self-interest: “The message I wanted to communicate was that if we solely pursue our immediate self-interest, and refuse to self-restrain, sacrifice, or bear any costs, and if we don’t put our heads together, we have no future.” That is the creator’s stated intent; viewers may interpret the symbolism in their own way.

Does the final scene confirm more Squid Game?
In Los Angeles, the Front Man hears ddakji and sees a well-dressed stranger playing with a distressed man. The image suggests that the games may operate elsewhere, but it does not identify the stranger or confirm another season or a spinoff.
Netflix describes Season 3, which premiered June 27, 2025, as the planned series finale; it has said the show will not return for Season 4. The closing scene leaves a hint of a wider operation, not confirmation that the story will continue.
