In Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s song, “WAP” stands for “wet-ass pussy,” an explicitly sexual phrase. The acronym is not universal: it has unrelated meanings in other contexts, including a technical one.
What does WAP mean in the song?
“WAP” is the title of a song by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion. Dictionary.com’s August 10, 2020 reference entry gives the expansion as “wet-ass pussy.” The Recording Academy likewise confirmed the expansion in an August 8, 2020 article, which described the track as the performers’ first collaboration.

The phrase is vulgar and sexually explicit. Dictionary.com explains “wet-ass” as referring to female sexual excitement and identifies “pussy” as vulgar slang for women’s genitalia. The clean version of the song substitutes “wet and gushy,” according to the same reference entry.
What does WAP mean in other contexts?
Meaning depends on context. Dictionary.com distinguishes the song-related slang from “WAP” as an abbreviation for wireless application protocol in digital technology. Seeing the letters alone is not enough to know which meaning is intended; the surrounding conversation or subject provides the clue.

Is “wap” an older slang word?
Dictionary.com also records lowercase “wap” as a historical slang word meaning “having sex,” with a record dating to the mid-1500s. That is a separate, older usage—not the expansion of the title of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 song. Dictionary.com describes its page as an informal word summary rather than a formal definition.

The Recording Academy framed the track as sexually empowered and reported Cardi B discussing the reception of her sexual lyrics.
