She sued Lyft, reportedly claiming a violation of Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. FOX 2 later reported that the case settled earlier in summer 2025; the settlement terms were not disclosed. The ride denial and legal claims were reported allegations, not findings by a court.
What happened during the reported Lyft ride denial?
Metro Times reported that Blanding requested a Lyft from her Detroit home to her cousin’s house to watch a football game. The driver arrived in a Mercedes-Benz sedan, locked the doors, and told her she was too big to enter. According to the report, he said she would not fit in the back seat, that the tires would not support her, and that she should order a larger vehicle. The driver was not named in the coverage.
In a January 28 report, FOX 2 recounted Blanding’s description of the exchange: “I can fit in this car,” she said; the driver replied, “Believe me, you can’t.” The outlet reported that he raised concerns about tire capacity, apologized, mentioned a larger vehicle, and said he would refund the ride. Those statements are part of the reported account; the coverage does not establish that the driver’s claims about the car’s capacity were technically accurate.
Who is Dank Demoss?
Dank Demoss is the performing name of Dajua Blanding, a Detroit rapper. She was the plaintiff in the lawsuit over the reported January 2025 ride denial.

What did the lawsuit claim?
Metro Times reported that Blanding’s complaint alleged that the refusal violated Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. That was her legal theory, not a court ruling on how the law applied to the incident. The complaint reportedly sought compensation for stress, mental anguish, attorney fees, and other damages.
Attorney Jon Marko, quoted by Metro Times, said: “Under the law, refusing someone transportation due to their weight is no different than refusing someone transportation based on their race or religion,” The statement expressed the plaintiff’s side’s position; it should not be read as a judicial determination in this case.

What did Lyft say?
Lyft’s spokesperson told Metro Times: “Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination — we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination.”

Yes. FOX 2 reported on September 18, 2025, citing court records, that the lawsuit had settled earlier that summer. Blanding’s attorney Zach Runyan confirmed that the case was “resolved” but said he could not discuss specifics. The reporting does not disclose the settlement amount or terms, establish an admission by Lyft, or state a final allocation of liability.
