What is Season 3 about?
The story picks up three years later. Dimple and Rishi have moved on from Aravali Institute in Jaipur and are entering a new phase of life in Hyderabad. The change in setting brings a broader focus on adult life, work and identity alongside the central romance.
Netflix’s trailer announcement frames the season around whether Dimple and Rishi can balance their ambitions with the effort of staying together, while navigating lives that are both real and virtual. Rishi and his former rival Anmol Malhotra work on the same team at Betterverse, a virtual-reality lab. Newcomer Rith is trying to find their footing in that virtual world, with Celina helping them fit in; Krish is still looking for his place. Siddharth, known as Sid sir, and Zeenat are also starting anew.

Those are Netflix’s promotional setup points, not a detailed account of every episode’s events. In the trailer, Rishi sums up one tension this way: “Pyaar me padna easy hai, pyaar ko nibhana sabse mushkil”—translated by Netflix as “Falling in love is easy, but maintaining it is the hardest.”
How does Season 3 differ from the earlier seasons?
The first two seasons center on the group’s time at Aravali Institute in Jaipur. Season 3 moves them to tech-centered Hyderabad and shifts the backdrop toward early adult life and work. Its virtual-reality setting gives the story another angle on identity: the characters are navigating relationships and ambitions while engaging with a world that can be both virtual and real. Netflix’s earlier season announcement describes the move as the group’s next phase, shaped by adulting, love, ambition, apps and identity.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Mismatched based on a book?
Yes. Netflix says the series is based on Sandhya Menon’s novel When Dimple Met Rishi. That is the book behind the series; Netflix’s statement does not establish that Season 3 has its own novelization or a season-specific tie-in edition. Ronnie Screwvala described the season’s themes as “growing together, embracing inclusivity, and facing life’s tough moments” in Netflix’s December 2, 2024 announcement; that is the producer’s characterization of the season.
