Yes. A community-edited setlist record lists Jelly Roll performing Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” at Music City Midnight New Year’s Eve 2024 in Nashville on December 31, 2024. CBS’s event announcement confirms Jelly Roll was scheduled to perform at the event, though it does not confirm the song.
What the New Year’s Eve setlist records
The setlist.fm entry for Jelly Roll’s Music City Midnight New Year’s Eve 2024 performance lists “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” as the eighth song and identifies it as a Toby Keith cover. The record places the performance at Bicentennial Capitol Mall in Nashville on December 31, 2024.
Setlist.fm entries are community-edited, so this is evidence from the setlist record—not an official artist or broadcaster confirmation of the song. Separately, a CBS-attributed event announcement published by Visit Nashville confirms Jelly Roll was scheduled to perform live at the Nashville special. It names Keith Urban as headliner and co-host and Kane Brown as another performer, but does not give Jelly Roll’s setlist.
Don’t confuse it with Jelly Roll’s Austin City Limits performance
Jelly Roll also performed “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” at an Austin City Limits taping on April 9, 2024. The show’s official recap says he introduced the song by saying, “country music lost a legend this year.” That introduction belongs to the April taping; it does not establish what he said or how he performed the song in Nashville on New Year’s Eve.

Is the New Year’s performance available to watch?
The sources that establish the setlist and event do not establish whether this particular performance is available as a standalone video or replay. They also do not specify its arrangement, duration, guests during the song, or how it may have been edited for broadcast. The setlist entry confirms what it lists, not those production details.
Where Toby Keith’s original appears
Toby Keith’s official site announced the compilation 13 Number Ones, listing “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” as its first track and stating that the CD and vinyl would be available October 4, 2024. It is Keith’s compilation, not a recording of Jelly Roll’s live cover; the announcement does not establish current retailer availability. See the official album announcement.
