Hannah Jiles said Nick Dorka’s reaction to a breakup call made her feel he was trying to shape how their filmed split would look. In an October 16, 2024 interview with Entertainment Weekly, she described that as her interpretation—not proof that Dorka scripted or staged the breakup.

What Hannah said happened before the breakup

Jiles said she called Dorka the morning she decided not to attend a wedding-dress appointment. He was on his way to a tuxedo fitting, she said, and she told him she did not feel ready to try on dresses because the relationship was not looking good.

According to Jiles, Dorka’s response focused on how the breakup would appear. She said that reaction made her uncomfortable: “Because he was trying to almost produce it, and that just made me feel uncomfortable. So I just realized that we shouldn’t be together.” The word “produce” in her account means influencing the presentation of their filmed breakup; she was not calling him a television producer.

What “trying to produce it” means—and what it does not establish

Jiles characterized Dorka as wanting a breakup that would make him look good and as wanting her to avoid certain remarks or topics. “He wanted it to be a good breakup where he looked good and I didn’t say anything mean to him, and he wanted to make sure I didn’t say certain things or bring up anything in conversations,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

That is Jiles’s description of his intentions and of a private phone call. The interview does not independently verify what Dorka intended, and Entertainment Weekly’s October 16, 2024 coverage does not include his direct response to this specific allegation. Life & Style’s October 17, 2024 article summarized the same Entertainment Weekly interview; it is not separate corroboration.

How the call fit into their relationship and the episode

Jiles said there was no single, precise moment when she decided to end the relationship. She described the two as fundamentally different, questioned whether they had a long-term future, and felt they needed to make a decision as wedding appointments approached. She also said she did not think either of them wanted to remain in the relationship.

In her account, the call came after Dorka had met her friends and attended a wedding alone that night. He was heading to the tux fitting the next day when she called about the dress appointment.

Jiles said the breakup shown in episode 11 was broadly similar to what happened, but that editing removed parts of the conversation. The scene viewers saw was therefore not a complete record of the breakup conversation, and the private call described in the interview should not be treated as independently confirmed solely because the breakup was later shown on camera.

Jiles also acknowledged her own harsh remarks

Jiles said that, after watching the episodes, she recognized that she had said hurtful things to Dorka and that some comments did not need to be said. “I was not in a good place, and I was saying hurtful things. That’s how I felt in that moment. Is it right? No, but that’s truly how I felt,” she said. She added: “That doesn’t excuse it, but I’m trying to work on being kinder with my words and my delivery.” She described the relationship as bringing out the worst in both of them.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the season 7 episodes covering the split were streaming on Netflix on October 16, 2024. That is a publication-time note, not confirmation of current availability or access in every region.
