MindGeek is now called Aylo. Ethical Capital Partners (ECP) acquired the company in March 2023, and Aylo announced the new name on August 17, 2023. Aylo’s portfolio includes Pornhub and YouPorn; the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also identifies RedTube as one of its free, ad-supported sites. The company’s change of name did not erase its record: separate U.S. and Canadian proceedings have addressed its handling of harmful content and intimate images.
What happened to MindGeek?
MindGeek was launched in 2004, according to Aylo’s August 2023 announcement. ECP acquired the company in March 2023. On August 17, Aylo announced that MindGeek had adopted the name Aylo, describing the rebrand as a fresh start and saying it wanted the name to stand for innovation, diverse and inclusive adult content, trust, and safety. Those are the company’s stated aims, not independent findings that its practices meet them.
In practical terms, the name change means that MindGeek is the company’s former public identity; Aylo is the name used in the company’s current public presentation and in more recent agency records. The cited public announcement names ECP as the acquirer. It does not state the purchase price, transaction financing, or a complete list of ECP’s ultimate beneficial owners, so those details cannot be established from these records.
Which sites does Aylo own or operate?
Aylo’s announcement names Pornhub, YouPorn, Brazzers, Men.com, Trans Angels, and Nutaku among its properties. In a September 2025 release, the FTC described Aylo as operating more than 100 pornographic photo and video-streaming websites. The FTC identified Pornhub, YouPorn, and RedTube as free, ad-supported upload-enabled sites, and Pornhub Premium as a paid service. The more-than-100 figure is the FTC’s description in that release, not a company-wide audited count.

That portfolio spans different kinds of services: free sites supported by advertising and paid subscriptions. RedTube’s place in this account is specifically established by the FTC’s description; it is not listed in the cited Aylo rebrand announcement.
What do the official records say about Aylo’s accountability?
Three significant records concern different issues and have different legal statuses. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a deferred prosecution agreement with admissions in 2023; Canada’s privacy regulator reported investigation findings and made recommendations in 2024; and the FTC and Utah announced a complaint containing allegations in 2025. They should not be collapsed into a single claim or treated as equivalent outcomes.

DOJ deferred prosecution agreement, December 2023
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York reported that Aylo admitted receiving funds it knew or should have known came from the GirlsDoPorn operators’ sex-trafficking activity. According to the DOJ, Aylo had received complaints and other information about alleged coercion and non-consensual posting, but did not independently verify consent or remove all videos for which removal had been requested.
Under the deferred prosecution agreement, Aylo agreed to pay $1,844,952.83 to the United States, make monetary payments to eligible victims, and submit to a three-year independent monitorship. The monitor was to assess due diligence, screening, monitoring, takedowns, and disclosures to law enforcement. The DOJ said a breach of the agreement could lead to prosecution. This was an agreement with admissions reported by the DOJ, not a guilty plea.

Canadian privacy investigation, February 2024
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada said its investigation found that Aylo contravened the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) by enabling intimate images to be shared without the direct knowledge or consent of everyone depicted. The Commissioner reported that the complainant’s content had been reposted across approximately 80 websites more than 700 times after she sought its removal. In an audit described by the Commissioner, approximately 70% of uploaders who did not appear in the videos failed to provide the promised identification and consent forms.
The Commissioner recommended that Aylo stop handling user-generated intimate images until it had compliant safeguards; delete content lacking valid direct consent; verify consent and age; and make takedowns simpler. The regulator’s February 2024 release said Aylo had not committed to implementing those recommendations as of publication. Commissioner Philippe Dufresne said, “Privacy is a fundamental right.”

FTC and Utah complaint, September 2025
The FTC and the state of Utah announced a complaint alleging that Aylo deceived users about its zero-tolerance and prompt-response claims and engaged in unfair practices related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and non-consensual material. The release described allegations concerning the review of flagged content, bans on uploaders, prevention of reuploads, and review before publication.
A complaint states allegations; the FTC’s release does not by itself establish that they were adjudicated or resolved. The release also quotes Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox calling the action an important step in protecting people from harmful and exploitative material. That statement is a comment about the action, not a finding that the complaint’s allegations had already been proven.

What safety measures has Aylo said it uses?
In a March 2024 statement, Aylo said the Pornhub network began requiring identification and signed release agreements to be submitted before publication of new content featuring a new co-performer, effective January 23, 2024. Aylo also said it publishes transparency reports twice a year. These are company-reported measures and do not establish that violations have stopped or that the measures are independently verified.

Aylo named relationships with Pineapple Support, Stop NCII, Crime Stoppers International, The Cupcake Girls, SWOP Behind Bars, and the Free Speech Coalition in that statement. The statement establishes that Aylo identified these organizations as relationships; it does not, on its own, establish what each relationship involved or independently validate the company’s safety performance.
