Quamarvious Nichols, known as “Qua,” pleaded guilty to one count under Georgia’s RICO law on October 29, 2024. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss his other charges, including a murder charge. A Fulton County Superior Court judge sentenced him to seven years in prison followed by 13 years of probation, with credit for time served.
What Quamarvious Nichols pleaded guilty to
Nichols admitted to one count of violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly called RICO. His plea deal resolved his case: prosecutors dismissed his remaining charges, including the murder charge. The dismissal means Nichols was not convicted of that murder.
At the hearing, Nichols and his lawyer acknowledged two alleged “overt acts” in the RICO conspiracy involving drug possession and distribution. Nichols denied involvement in the 2022 drive-by shooting that killed Shymel Drinks. Those statements and the indictment’s allegations should not be mistaken for a murder conviction.
His sentence and credit for time served
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker imposed a 20-year sentence: seven years in prison followed by 13 years of probation. Nichols was also to receive credit for time served. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the credit amounted to 31 months; Courthouse News Service reported the credit without giving a number.

Whitaker told Nichols: “You need to stay out of all kinds of criminal trouble. Make this a birthday present to yourself, your children, your wife and family. Leave whatever you used to do behind you.”
What was happening in court when Nichols took the deal
Nichols was one of six defendants still in the trial when he pleaded on October 29. Young Thug was among the five defendants who remained, and the proceedings were on day 152. Courthouse News Service described the case at the time as the longest trial in Georgia history; that was a contemporaneous description, not the case’s eventual outcome.

The plea came after a dispute over an exhibit that should have been redacted. A witness read aloud a hashtag from a handout provided by prosecutors, even though it had been removed from the image shown to jurors. Defense attorneys argued that the information improperly disclosed which defendants were incarcerated and asked for a mistrial. Judge Whitaker had not ruled on that request when Nichols accepted the deal.

Nichols’s plea did not end the trial. Three other defendants reached plea deals on October 30. On October 31, Young Thug—whose legal name is Jeffery Williams—entered a plea, and the trial ended abruptly. The later developments changed the case’s posture; they do not alter what Nichols pleaded to the day before.
